Vote YES on Measure A*

Mail in ballots must be posted by April 30

PTA Council has proudly voted to support the parcel tax renewal, now called Measure A, including a $999 donation to the parcel tax campaign. PTA is the largest child advocacy organization in the country. While we are strictly non-partisan, we can and do advocate for ballot measures. This Measure is extremely important to pass to keep the 80 teachers, counselors, librarians and psychologists for which the current parcel tax pays as well as support the increasing student enrollment (+1100 student since 2008/9, projected increase of +700 in the next 5 years). The modest increase in the parcel tax will enable a small expansion of funding to support struggling students, STEAM programs and student wellness. Even with the increase in property taxes we have enjoyed in the last year, our school district funds do not keep up with inflation. We have lost approximately $4 million of income annually from the Cubberley lease as well as having to fund our employee pension plan that the state has pushed onto school districts. Because we are a basic aid district we will not get more money from the state's Local Control Funding Formula. Information about the vote to renew the parcel tax Election information, including how to register to vote Information about the campaign to pass Measure A, including signing up to volunteer, display a lawn sign, precinct walk, or phone bank

Principal's Message
Dear Parents,
This week begins our Not In Our Schools week, an important school-wide initiative dedicated to creating a safer school environment, accepting and inclusive, free of bullying and all forms of intolerance.  Please check out the schedule for the week and review the NIOS LibGuide, which includes various resources and videos likely to be shown in your children's classes.  These are great conversation starters for our entire school community as we work towards making our school a place where every person feels connected, capable and knows that they count.  Also included this week as part of NIOS is our annual Paly Service Day  on Thursday, April 23rd, and we conclude the week on Saturday, April 25th with our Challenge Success/School Climate committee sponsored "Hack-a-thon" where we will be "hacking student well-being."  More details to follow on this exciting new event!  Special thanks to the NIOS student and staff committee who have organized this transformative week and for everyone who has the courage to speak out and take action for the greater good.

While we want everyday to be a day where ALL students feel safe and welcomed at our school, we know we have work to do in this area and are counting on you as our partners in this effort.  Please let us know if your child needs additional assistance or support.  We love our Vikings, and it takes a village!
Take care,
Kim Diorio
