Vote YES on Measure A*
Mail in ballots must be posted by April 30 PTA Council has proudly voted to support the parcel tax renewal, now called Measure A, including a $999 donation to the parcel tax campaign. PTA is the largest child advocacy organization in the country. While we are strictly non-partisan, we can and do advocate for ballot measures. This Measure is extremely important to pass to keep the 80 teachers, counselors, librarians and psychologists for which the current parcel tax pays as well as support the increasing student enrollment (+1100 student since 2008/9, projected increase of +700 in the next 5 years). The modest increase in the parcel tax will enable a small expansion of funding to support struggling students, STEAM programs and student wellness. Even with the increase in property taxes we have enjoyed in the last year, our school district funds do not keep up with inflation. We have lost approximately $4 million of income annually from the Cubberley lease as well as having to fund our employee pension plan that the state has pushed onto school districts. Because we are a basic aid district we will not get more money from the state's Local Control Funding Formula. Information about the vote to renew the parcel tax Election information, including how to register to vote Information about the campaign to pass Measure A, including signing up to volunteer, display a lawn sign, precinct walk, or phone bank

College Admissions Workshop

Tues, April 14,  6:30-9 pm; registration in C&CC  Updated

Now available for sophomores!

Get the real scoop on college admissions and applications from Admissions Representatives.  Don't miss this opportunity; space is limited!

Admissions Reps will work with small groups of students and parents to evaluate the simulated applications of four seniors applying to a selective college. Participants will read student files, evaluate transcripts, test scores, essays and recommendations, and act as the Admissions Committee to decide which applicants will be admitted.  This workshop will be extremely valuable in helping both parents and students understand the complex college admissions process.

Registration is required on a first come, first serve basis.  There is a fee of $15 per person to cover the cost of case study materials and snacks for participants.  Scholarships are available - please contact Ms. Cernobori in the CCC.

Students and parents will register at the volunteer desk in the CCC beginning Monday, March 23. (Sorry, we are not able to provide online registration.) Bring a check payable to the Palo Alto High School or cash.  All registrants will receive a Case Studies packet.  Participants are expected to read through the case studies before arriving at Paly on April 1,  bring their packets with them to the workshop, and be prepared to engage in discussion (this is NOT a presentation; active participation is required).

Last time we hosted the event it was incredibly successful; read these endorsements if you're still unsure about participating:

"We both enjoyed the case studies workshop and the mini college fair.  Lots of great discussions afterward.  I would highly recommend it."

"Our son and I attended and it was a terrific experience for us to be the admissions office and experiencing how they read and evaluate an application.  I thought this was a very valuable thing for our Paly students to see.  It was fun and creative and my son came home even more motivated about the long process ahead."

"That was one of the most educational experiences I have had.  Thank you to everyone!"

"We were using the Common Application forms to study and so it was very useful for juniors and their families to get a feel for the lay out and types of questions that the app has."

"Thank you again for a great night last night. The college rep was great and we learned a ton."

This workshop will NOT be run again next year so be sure to attend.
