Info: Nancy, advocacy@capta6.org.

Keep up-to-date with Paly College and Career Center news and events by "liking" our Facebook page. The C&CC holds an open-house after each parent night in the Fall. There is also a wealth of information in Naviance and on the C&CC webpage

Located on the first floor of the Tower Building, the College & Career Center (C&CC) is staffed by more than forty parent volunteers. These volunteers serve our students and support our college and career advisors by performing administrative tasks and acting as the C&CC receptionist during a weekly 2 hour shift.  To keep things running smoothly and seamlessly from year to year, we rely heavily on returning volunteers.  Shifts for the 2013-2014 year have already been filled with returning volunteers, although opportunities to work as a substitute or on special projects may be available.  Parents who sign up and work either as a substitute or on special projects will have priority for any open slots in the following school year.

New C&CC Volunteer Training Meeting
Tues. Aug. 20, 9-11am, ERC
Parents of 10th, 11th and 12th graders who would like to become substitutes or work on special projects should come to the 2-hour new volunteer training meeting. Attendance at the training meeting is required in order to be eligible to volunteer in C&CC.  More info: C&CC Volunteer Coordinators Erin Bushell or Carlene Kemmerer.

College Rep Visits: Students must have their teacher's permission one day in advance if missing class. Pick up a form in the C&CC, or download it.  Bring the signed form the day of the visit to ensure the absence from class is cleared and marked as an activity rather than a truancy.  College visits scheduled for the next two weeks are listed below.  For a full list of all visits through Spring, login to Naviance using your user ID and password or login as a Guest with no password.  Click on the "Colleges" tab then click "view all upcoming college visits" within the "my colleges" section. Parents wishing to attend college rep visits must read and complete this form and bring it to the visit.

Classroom Volunteers Needed in East Palo Alto - An Hour a Week Could Change a Student's Life
Begins Sept. 6
We are looking for parents willing to volunteer in a K-4 classroom this school year.  Assist teachers with tutoring and individualized instruction much like you may have done in your own child's classroom, but these classes have no parents helping...no PTA. The schools are located in East Palo Alto and East Menlo Park.  It's one hour per week with training starting September 6. Our organization coordinates everything. To learn more about us, visit www.allstudentsmatter.org.  Have questions or want to sign up?  Contact Carolyn Blatman at CBlatman@aol.com.

Peninsula Youth Theatre
Aug 26-27
You can fly!  Students ages 8-18 are invited to audition for Peninsula Youth Theatre's production of Peter Pan.  All who audition will be cast. For more information and to schedule an audition time, visit www.pynet.org.

Support kids in East Palo Alto and eastern Menlo Park
Library volunteers are needed at K-8 public schools in the the Ravenswood District to support and encourage students as they learn to read.  Activities include reading to children, helping students find books they love, checking-out books, and organizing.   Reading skills dramatically impact children's educational prospects, so this is a fun way to make a big difference!   More information at http://readerstakeflight.org or email readerstakeflight@gmail.com.
