Upward Bound House - Santa Monica, CA. Founded in 1990, the mission of Upward Bound House is to eliminate homelessness among families with children, by providing housing, supportive services and advocacy.
Since 1997, Upward Bound House has helped more than 500 families, including over 1,000 children, successfully transition from homelessness into permanent housing. An astonishing 95% of these families have retained their own housing for at least one year after placement.
Upward Bound House graduates that have returned to self-sufficiency, often return to volunteer in our on-site food pantry and thrift store to help current homeless families access food and donated clothing.

Camp Kesem - Lafayette, CA. Camp Kesem's is a free, college-student lead summer camp for children ages 6 to 16 whose parents have or had cancer. Their mission is to provide children affected by a parent's cancer with a supportive, lifelong camp community that recognizes and understands their unique needs; and to empower college students to make a difference and build invaluable leadership skills by developing and managing every aspect of their Camp Kesem chapter.
This past summer, Camp Kesem was able to serve over 2,000 children across the country. For many of these children, Camp Kesem is the first place where they are surrounded by peers who can truly understand them, allowing them to feel comfort and relief from the knowledge that they are not alone.
"Camp means everything to me. I can be with my friends and not have to worry. It is an escape from pain. I can be myself for a while and just feel free. I get so scared for my mom, but at Camp Kesem I can just be me."
- Camper, Summer 2012
