LSC hires disaster case managers in South Carolina
By Katie Scarvey, Lutheran Services Carolinas

Lutheran Services Carolinas has hired two case managers to help with long-term disaster relief in South Carolina, thanks to a $238,892 grant from Lutheran Disaster Response.

Lavada Smith and Ashley McKee-Thompson will provide disaster case management for two years in the South Carolina counties of Richland and Lexington, which sustained heavy damage from the flood caused by Hurricane Joaquin in October 2015. Working out of LSC's Columbia office, Smith and McKee-Thompson will serve an estimated 180 households with pending FEMA registrations. Services provided will include assistance in securing housing, connecting to benefits and other resources, and facilitating housing repairs.

Newberry College ranked among nation's best
By Jill Johnson, Newberry College

Newberry rises substantially in 2017 rankings and earns a third ranking

Newberry College has been ranked on the 2017 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings, which were released its lists today. Newberry earned three rankings in the national magazine's annual report:
* Best Colleges in the South (#16) * Best Value for Regional Colleges in the South (#3) * Best Colleges for Veterans-Regional Colleges in the South (#8)
Although Newberry College has ranked in the Top 50 for Best Colleges in the South for a number of years, the private liberal arts college rocketed ahead in this year's rankings, moving from #41 last year to #16 in the 2017 report.

"It is very rewarding to be recognized by U.S. News & World Report as our key performance indicators continue to improve," said Newberry College President Maurice W. Scherrens. "We are on a journey of continuous assessment and improved effectiveness. The College's rise in the rankings is a tangible outcome of our efforts."

The Experience at Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary (LTSS)
The name The Experience was chosen because LTSS believes what you, as a prospective student, experiences is the most appropriate and influential way to determine which seminary is the right place to earn your theological education. During your time with us, we will show you our community and the community surrounding us. You will experience life with our current students and the heartbeat of campus. Also, our faculty will offer you a glimpse of the classroom experience that is essential to your theological formation. We look forward to welcoming you to The Experience!

Jenn Casey, an alum of LTSS and our Enrollment Director reflects, "I remember having a lot of questions during my discernment process and I often wondered if I was the only person with those questions. I also thought I must be crazy for thinking that God was calling me into ordained ministry. I now know I wasn't the only one, but it can be a confusing process!"

We have four opportunities, click on each on for registration information.
