SCO Officially Launches Online CE Library
|
SCO has officially launched a new online continuing education video library featuring 10 video courses filmed in high definition and led by faculty member instructors, including Lindsay Elkins, OD '07, pictured. Hosted on SCO's website, the Online CE Education Library's initial offerings of COPE-approved lectures have also been made accessible to ODs in other countries. At the invitation of the World Council of Optometry, an SCO portal was created on the World Continuing Education Alliance's website. Online Registration Ends Soon for April 8-10 Event
Online registration ends soon for SCO's Spring CE Weekend to be held April 8-10 on campus. This year's program of 22 COPE-approved CE credit hours includes workshops on Friday, including an injections lab, and a lunch & learn course on Saturday presented by the Hayes Center for Practice Excellence. Guest speakers include several alumni and faculty lecturers in addition to Andrew Crothers, MD, Leo Semes, OD, Mohammed Rafieetary, OD, and Christine Sindt, OD. Hayes Center Presents Practice Awards
Four outstanding young alumni were presented last week with the Third Annual Hayes Center for Practice Excellence Awards. Given to SCO alumni who have graduated within the last decade, the awards are presented to alumni who have demonstrated practice management skills by meeting a number of independently verified benchmarks. Hayes Center Director Lisa Wade, OD '84, presented the awards during a new two-day program designed to help third-year students successfully transition into their externship rotations.

May 13, 2016 is the date for the investiture ceremony for SCO's seventh president, Lewis Reich, OD, PhD. Invitations have been mailed to SCO's most dedicated alumni and supporters. SCO President Emeritus Billy Cochran, OD '68, presented the Faculty Development Endowment's Distinguished Visiting Scientist Award last week to Jeffrey Walline, OD, PhD, Associate Dean for Research at The Ohio State University College of Optometry.
Jerry Hayes, OD '73, co-founder of the Hayes Center for Practice Excellence at SCO, was interviewed for an article on harnessing metrics for practice productivity published by Review of Optometry.
Dale Morris, OD '73, pictured with his wife, Trisha, and son, Chris Morris, OD '99, was named SECO's OD of the South last month in Atlanta.
Lonnie Randolph, OD '77, is currently serving in his 12th year as president of the South Carolina State Conference of the NAACP. He recently spoke at an NAACP banquet.

Ted McElroy, OD '93, was installed last month as SECO President in Atlanta.
Steven Reed, OD '95, currently serving SCO's Board of Trustees Chair, is campaigning for AOA Trustee. Alumni wishing to support his effort may read more in this announcement.
Mike Rothschild, OD '97, has announced his retirement from practice in Carrollton, Georgia, effective May 31. He has accepted a position with a company that provides software for ODs across the country.
Duane Thompson, OD '99, was recently elected to a two-year term as a director for the Heart of America Contact Lens Society.
Eric Barnes, OD '00, center, was named the Armed Forces Optometric Society's U.S. Navy Senior Optometrist of the Year at SECO.
Christina Vranich, OD '09, and Nicole Monroe, OD '99, spoke to third-year SCO students at the newest program designed to guide students into their fourth-year externship experience.
Meghan Elkins, OD '10, was named the VA's Junior OD of the Year at SECO.

Kristin Anderson, OD, and Lewis Reich, OD, PhD, recently participated in ASCO's strategic planning meeting in Phoenix.
Marie Bodack, OD, was among the speakers at a recent joint CE program with doctors from the Hamilton Eye Institute held on the University of Tennessee campus with SCO's faculty in attendance.
Chris Borgman, OD, will be lecturing at the Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians' Winter CME Program and Legislative Luncheon on March 23.
Scott Ensor, OD '01, Whitney Hauser, OD '01, Jason Duncan, OD '96, and Glen Steele, OD '69, were among the faculty members who lectured at SECO for CE courses. Dr. Hauser and SCO resident Heather Atcherson, OD '15, were interviewed by EyeTubeOD at SECO for a series of upcoming videos.
Daniel Taylor, OD '06, has been named this year's Outstanding Instructional Design and Technology Doctoral Student at the University of Memphis.
Wil McGriff, OD, recently appeared as an in-studio guest on Action News 5's morning show in Memphis to talk about workplace eye issues, including Computer Vision Syndrome.
