Join SCO at SECO Next Week in Atlanta
|
Alumni and friends are invited to network with SCO faculty, students, and other representatives from the college at SECO 2016 in Atlanta on February 24-28. SCO has a larger booth space this year in the Exhibit Hall. The Hayes Center for Practice Excellence will feature financial planning strategies in short presentations. Friday brings an Alumni/Child Admissions Forum presentation for alumni with children or grandchildren interested in optometry school. Other booth events include information about SCO's Externship and Residency programs and opportunities to meet newly appointed President Lewis Reich, OD, PhD. SCO to Host Spring CE Weekend
|
Registration Now Open for April 2016 Event
Registration is now open for SCO's annual Spring CE Weekend, to be held April 8-10 on the college campus. This event kicks off on Friday afternoon with two workshops, an "Injection Procedures for Primary Eye Care Clinical Skills Lab" and "Accessing Low Vision Options on Smartphones and Tablets." Another course, "Femtosecond Cataract Surgery and the Latest Premium IOL Options," will be offered from 3-5 p.m. Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, attendees will enjoy nine courses, including two lunch and learn sessions. Class Reunion Challenge Update

Class of 1980 Raises the Most Funds
As part of last year's class reunion festivities, participating alumni were challenged to see which reunion class could raise the most gifts. The 2015 numbers have been tallied, and congratulations to SCO's Class of 1980 for winning the 2015 Reunion Class Giving Challenge! Class members celebrating their 35th reunion united to raise more than $22,000 for scholarships and had the highest participation during 2015. Thanks to all reunion class members who participated and contributed. If you graduated in a year ending in '1' or '6', i.e., the Classes of 1981 or 1996, look for more information from Cecily Freeman, SCO's Director of Alumni Giving, about this year's challenge for reunion class members leading up to Fall Homecoming September 15-18, 2016.

SCO President Lewis Reich, OD, PhD, was recently appointed as a member of the National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) Board of Directors. At the local level, he was also elected Secretary of the newly established Medical District Collaborative in Memphis. The group held its inaugural meeting on the SCO campus. Chris Borgman, OD, and John Sharpe, OD '83, will lecture at the Southern Indiana Pharmacology Seminar on March 16 in Evansville, Indiana. The event is organized in part by Freddy Chang, OD, PhD.
Mike Christensen, OD, PhD, co-authored an article about artificial tears in this recent issue of Review of Contact Lenses.
Whitney Hauser, OD '01, is featured in this video talking about "Treating Patients with Eye Redness." She also recently wrote an article about how to improve the diagnosis and treatment of allergies in an article published by Optometry Times. John Mark Jackson, OD '99, wrote about GP Lens resolutions for 2016 in an article published by Contact Lens Spectrum.
Marc Taub, OD, MS, traveled to Munich, Germany to lecture on "An Introduction to Visual Efficiency and Processing Testing for Patients of All Ages" for a seminar presented at the Behavioral Optometry Academy Foundation's 4th Annual Conference.
