Parking Changes at Riley Hospital for Children

Family Voices shared this

information via IU Health

Upcoming changes to some parking garages on the Indiana University-Purdue University (IUPUI) campus are of special interest to Indiana University Health patients and their families. Details are provided below, with information also shared at iuhealth.org.

What is the change?
No people will be in the booths at the exits of the IUPUI parking garages. All parking fees will be accepted through Automated Pay Stations (APS). The APS machines are located in the garages. Cash, credit card and IUPUI-issued validations can be used for payment.

When does this change start?
July 1, 2014

Which garages near IU Health hospitals are included in this change?
The Riley at IU Health Outpatient Center, Wilson Street, Vermont Street and the IU Health University Hospital Outpatient garages.

Not included in this change:
The Simon Family Tower Garage at Riley at IU Health and garages at IU Health Methodist Hospital are NOT included in this change.

Tips for using the APS system:
Take an entry ticket when entering the garage. Do not bend, damage or lose the ticket. When leaving the hospital, look for signs that point to APS machines. Insert the ticket into the APS machine. (The APS accepts cash, credit cards and IUPUI parking validation cards.) Pay the amount shown. The machine will validate and return your ticket. Use the ticket at the exit station to exit the garage.

Is there an APS at the garage exit?
Yes. Payment can also be made at an "Exit Terminal" located at each exit. Credit cards and IUPUI parking validation cards are accepted at the exit terminals. Note: Cash is not accepted at the exit terminals.

How much does it cost to park? What form of payments are accepted?
Rates start at $4 for one hour and increase for every extra hour. The maximum fee is $16. If the parking ticket is lost, the fee is $16. Cash, credit cards or IUPUI parking validation cards are accepted at the lobby APS terminals. Credit cards and IUPUI parking validation cards are accepted at the exit APS terminals.

What if help is needed?
All Automated Pay Stations and Exit Terminals are equipped with a call button and calls are answered 24/7. For any issues or questions, call
317.274.4232. For any security concerns, call IUPUI security at 317.274.7911

Family Fun Day at Nameless Creek

Join us for a day of family fun at Nameless Creek Youth Camp! FUSE will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, and paper products for a pitch in lunch. Families will each pitch in a side dish and a small dessert item. Lunch will be served around 12:30.

After lunch there will be activities for families to do at their own pace. We will have some impromptu field games, corn hole, nature crafts and water games if it is very hot.   Families can always explore the trails that run throughout the camp and bring some shoes suitable for stomping in the creek! Feel free to bring along activities and games your family likes to play! Around 2:00 we will have a visit from some local farm animals including a certified therapy alpaca, chickens, and bunnies!

This is an open event, so please invite any family you know who would like to enjoy some fun time together while meeting other families and learning more about FUSE. This is a great place to introduce other families to the support and encouragement they can receive by being a part of a group like FUSE. Just make sure you have them register so we have enough food for all of our guests!

Medicaid Waiver Information Presentation in Shelbyville

FUSE is hosting a training for families to learn more about Medicaid Waiver services and to get help signing up for the waiver.  Heather Dane of Family Voices Indiana will do the presentation for FUSE families and interested professionals in Shelbyville.  After the training, Medicaid Waiver applications will be available for families to take home, and families will have an opportunity to ask questions about applying.   One key fact is that Medicaid Waivers do not count parental income for children under age 18, so families of any income level will want to be aware of this program.  Please help spread the word!

Tuesday, August 26
Shelby County Public Library
Carnegie East Wing, Meeting Room A
Shelbyville IN 46163
7:00 pm to 8:30 pm

Please click here to register so we know how many people to expect.

Also, please note that child care is NOT available for the waiver meeting.  Please contact our office with any questions about this training.

Caregiver Support Services Funds Opened July 1

announcement from Julie Reynolds, BDDS Director
The Division of Disability and Rehabilitative Services (DDRS) Bureau of Developmental Disabilities Services (BDDS) would like to announce that Caregiver Support Services funds will be available for the fiscal year 2015 beginning July 1, 2014. The Caregiver Support Services is 100 percent state funded and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications received during fiscal year 2014 for Caregiver Support Services do not carry over to fiscal year 2015. An application must be completed for each fiscal year's Caregiver Support Services funds.

Applications may be made online, by mail or in-person. To apply online, please access the following DDRS webpage by clicking here.  To apply by mail or in-person please call or visit your local BDDS District Office and request an application. A frequently asked question document is also available on the BDDS webpage.

As long as the Caregiver Support Services funds are available, services may be approved and available when 1) an individual meets the state definition of intellectual and developmental disabilities eligibility and 2) the primary caregiver selects a provider. Caregiver Support Services will not be available to the primary caregiver if the individual is receiving or begins to receive other services from the BDDS or programs such as (but not limited to) Vocational Rehabilitation Services, First Steps, CHOICE, Division of Aging waiver, etc.

The initial budgets will be approved in the amount of $500 for each eligible individual regardless of the number of eligible individuals residing in the residence. Upon exhaustion of funding, subsequent budgets may be requested by the Caregiver Support Services provider and will be reviewed on a case by case basis. Any new budget is dependent upon available funds.

Changes in IMAST/Standardized Assessment for Students with Disabilities

Information reprinted from

The Arc of Indiana E-newsletter

Many students with disabilities utilize the IMAST as their standardized assessment test in the state.  The State of Indiana will no longer be able to administer the IMAST test due to changes in the federal education wavier process.

The Department of Education has created three webinars to help parents in the transitioning of students who previously took IMAST to a new  test.  The webinars can be found at: http://www.doe.in.gov/specialed.

The three webinars include:

  • Transitioning from IMAST
  • IDOE Online ISTEP+ Resources for the Classroom
  • Resources for Parents

ABA Therapy Coverage, Medicaid and the "1634 Transition" (Also called "The June 1st Changes")

To:      Parents of Children with Autism Receiving Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapy Services

From:  Your Indiana Family Advocacy Organizations - About Special Kids (ASK), The Autism Society of Indiana (ASI), The Arc of Indiana, Covering Kids and Families (CKF), Family Voices Indiana, The Indiana Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (INAAP), and The Indiana Resource Center for Autism (IRCA)

Re:  ABA Therapy Coverage, Medicaid and the "1634 Transition" (Also called "The June 1st Changes")

Because of a transition at the state level, some parents have heard conflicting information regarding the type of Medicaid their child must have after June 1, 2014, if the child also has Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

We want to provide parents with accurate information and provide a way to contact  The Office of Medicaid Policy and Planning (OMPP) and the Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) to clarify any of their questions.  Much of this confusion is based upon the "1634 Transition" that Indiana began on June 1, 2014.

ABA Research Study Opportunities

We have received a flyer from Ball State University on behalf of a doctoral student in school psychology and ABA at Ball State University.  She is currently working on two research projects under the supervision of  Dr. Susan Wilczynski during which they will examine the use of web-based parent training in ABA. The student is  recruiting parents of children with ASD living in Midwestern States to participate in the online study where parents will have access to web-based training in ABA.

If you are interested in more information about this opportunity, click the link for more information.
