Fundraising Volunteers Needed

Do you enjoy getting out and about talking to new people?  Like to give back to your community?  FUSE is looking for a few good men and women who would like to assist with some of our fundraising events.  Volunteers are needed to work with planning committees to go out and share information about our fundraisers with potential event sponsors.

If you are interested in assisting with securing sponsors for our fundraisers and programs, please contact Amy Borgmann at 317-462-9064 or [email protected].

Survey Participants Needed

-adapted from an email from

The Arc of Indiana

The Arc of Indiana is seeking families/guardians who would be willing to participate in a telephone survey regarding the service system for individuals, ages 18 and over, who have an intellectual or developmental disability (I/DD) and a co-occurring mental/behavioral health challenge.

The phone survey will be conducted by the University of New Hampshire Institute on Disability-The Center for START Services on behalf of FSSA's Division of Disability and Rehabilitative Services.

While an online survey is also being conducted, the phone surveys are very important to this project. If you have a child, age 18 or over, with both I/DD and mental/behavioral health challenges, and you have experienced challenges trying to find services and supports for their child and their family, they want to talk with you.

Individuals interested in participating in the phone survey can contact Jill Ginn, Manager of The Arc Advocacy Network, [email protected] or 317-224-0248.

Medicaid Disability /SSI Changes

 -reprinted from an email
from Family Voices Indiana

Family Voices Indiana has been getting calls from families being auto-enrolled in Medicaid Disability due to the fact that their child receives SSI.

We have previously posted information that families have freedom of choice to remain on HHW if they are eligible and not receiving home and community based services through the waiver program:

http://fvindiana.blogspot.com/2014/04/information-about-freedom-of-choice.html

We sought clarification from FSSA about what families should do to remain on Hoosier Healthwise if they are eligible and wish to do so:

Individuals do have the option to opt to another category of Medicaid if eligible.  To make this request, families should contact the Division of Family Resources (DFR).  Families can contact their local DFR office by logging on to: http://in.gov/fssa/dfr/2999.htm and entering their zip code, or search by county.  Families can also contact DFR by telephone at 1-800-403-0864.

Families are welcome to contact Family Voices Indiana for help with this process. There are issues families should consider in choosing the type of Medicaid their child receives.

We hope all of our FUSE families have gotten off to a fun and busy summer!  We have received lots of information and resources over the past few weeks, so we decided an early version of the June FUSE Ink was in order.  Here's what's happening in and around Central Indiana!

Family Picnic in Shelby County Sunday

Well we had the first ever family picnic in the rain in Hancock County last Monday.  Sounds like our weather is going to be better for the Shelby County picnic coming up on Sunday, June 8!

FUSE will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, buns and paper products. Families will each pitch in a side dish and a small dessert item. We will plan to eat first and after the meal families are invited to stay around and socialize while the kids run and play or just enjoy the park atmosphere.  Feel free to bring outdoor games or sporting equipment that your family would like to play or share with the group.

We really want to grow the Shelby County meetings, s please  spread the word to other families you know who might like to learn more about FUSE! The picnic will be a great informal way to meet other families and learn about how FUSE can help their family with information and support needs.

*Please note the Shelby County picnic is on a SUNDAY to help accommodate some of our families whose schedules conflict on Mondays

Sunday, June 8

6:00 to 8:00 pm

Kennedy Park

200 Minister Dr

Shelbyville IN 46176

Register for the Shelby County picnic here

The playground at Kennedy Park is a fully accessible playground designed for kids of all abilities to play together, so please spread the word to other families in Shelby County and encourage them to attend!

The picnic will replace our regular meeting, and we take July off, so the next regular meeting will be August 11 back at the Shelby County Public Library.

Cruisin' For FUSE Charity Motorcycle Ride in June

It's almost time to ride!  The second annual Cruisin' for FUSE Charity Motorcycle Ride will take place on June 21, 2014. The ride will originate at Nine Star Connect at 2243 E. Main Street, Greenfield, IN with registration at 9:30 and kickstands up at 10:30, riding to Cammack Station and back. Registration is $25 per bike and $5 for a rider, which includes a T-shirt.

The Pacers Cheerleaders will be on hand during registration. Motorcycle stunt riders will provide entertainment after the ride and BBQ Pork with your favorite side dishes will be available for lunch for $7. A silent auction with great items from local retailers and collectibles will take place after the ride as well.

Riders who choose to may raise at least $100 by getting pledges and have their registration fee waived.  This option gives riders an opportunity to increase the fundraising to help FUSE provide information and support to families raising children with special needs!   Download a pledge form at www.fuseinc.org. For more information or to register, call Amy Borgmann at 317-462-9064.
