Message from the BALIF Board
|
Greetings!
Recently, I finished watching Season 10 of the
Real Housewives of Orange County and it made me think of two things: fundraising and parties. This was the perfect thing to think about since I and my fellow co-chair on the Social Action committee are currently working hard on planning BALIF's Halloween Fundraiser benefiting El/La Para Translatinas. This year, the fundraiser will be held at the
Lookout Bar in San Francisco on Thursday, October 29th starting at 6:00pm.
El/La is a non-profit organization in San Francisco for transgender Latinas that seeks to promote survival and improve the quality of life in the San Francisco Bay Area. We want to raise as much money and awareness as possible for this great organization and I implore you to donate whatever you can. Every little bit helps and even a $20 donation still goes a long way. On the night of the fundraiser, there will be good food, good drinks, and good company. Since this event is two nights before Halloween, costumes are certainly encouraged but not required. Please see here for further details about our fundraiser and donation levels.
Additionally, I want to extend a sincere thank you to Boone Callaway and David Helbraun for hosting a wonderful Happy Hour at their home last week. Both of them are proof that BALIF members are welcoming, friendly, generous, and always gracious. I had an exceptional time at their home and I hope to see them at many more future BALIF events.
If you want to donate to our upcoming fundraiser or want to send me an e-mail about what you thought about the Real Housewives finale (I know I am not the only one who watches), please email socialaction@balif.org. Have a wonderful autumn, everyone!

Vote for Bayview
Hunter's Point Community Legal
|
Bayview Hunters Point Community Legal is the only legal aid office in the entire zip code, and they are doing something that's never been done before -- attempting to offer universal access to civil representation for everyone who lives in the zip code, regardless of issue. Currently, they only have two full-time attorneys on staff. They were just selected by Google as one of the "10 most innovative nonprofits in the Bay Area". Google will be giving a half-million dollar grant to four of the ten organizations -- the four who get the most votes. You can vote for Bayview Hunters Point Community Legal here.
