Message from the BALIF Board
Greetings!

On the heels of Lavender Law and now in Washington, DC for on-campus interviewing, I have been thinking a lot about the future of the legal profession:  those who will come after us and continue the progress so desperately needed.  Much has been said about next steps after Obergefell, and an important way to facilitate those next steps is by mentoring law students and/or newer lawyers.

The BALIF Connections Mentoring Program is a great opportunity to do just that.  From now until September the Young Lawyers & Law Students Committee Co-Chairs Felicia Medina and Shauna Madison are accepting applicants and making mentoring pairings.  More information on the program can be found here. If you are interested in participating, please email Felicia and Shauna at younglawyers@balif.org.  The program will then kick off on September 18 at the Mentor/Mentee Happy Hour at the Lookout.  I hope to see everyone there!

Sincerely,

BALIF's Connections
 Mentorship Program
It's that time of the year again! BALIF's Connections mentorship program is seeking mentors and mentees for 2015-2016. For more information, see the program guidelines and description on the BALIF website. If you are a law student, recent law school graduate, or newer attorney seeking a mentor, or if you are an experienced attorney interested in serving as a mentor, please contact the Young Lawyers and Students Programs Committee, younglawyers@balif.org. Mentor/mentee pairs will be assigned on a rolling basis from July-September.
Lavender Law
We hope everyone who attended the National LGBT Bar Association's Lavender Law conference in Chicago last week had a wonderful time and learned a lot!

The AABA LGBT Committee Presents Gender In/Sight Workshop
The Asian American Bar Association LGBT committee presents
Gender In/sight: A Workshop on Understanding and Unpacking Culture and Constructions of Gender

To build supportive and inclusive communities, society needs to acknowledge gender and consider how gender dynamics influence daily interactions. This workshop examines racial, ethnic, and legal meanings of gender, updating cultural definitions and providing new understandings. Gender In/sight provides a tool for recognizing gender in its diverse manifestations and begins a lifelong process of learning about how gender intersects your multiple identities.

Come to this workshop, led by Adam Chang and Stephanie Wildman, and learn with your colleagues to promote diversity in your legal professional work and life.
