Message from the BALIF Board
|
Greetings!
One of my very favorite events of the year is almost upon us - the BALIF Gala. On Friday, March 13, 2015, from 7-11 pm, BALIF and its supporters will gather at the Terra Gallery to celebrate 35 Years of BALIF. Wow! What an accomplishment! If you don't have your ticket yet, go now to the BALIF website and get yours. This is not a party to be missed.
Gala Co-Chairs Nick Clements and Mario Choi have put together a dazzling event. There will be delicious food and drink stations throughout the venue. And as at other recent Galas, the format will be that of a cocktail party where you can mix and mingle with 600-700 of your closest old and new friends. We will be honoring the GLBT Historical Society and Tom Ammiano, two extraordinarily worthy recipients. I can hardly wait!
The BALIF Gala always feels like a homecoming to me. Everyone is dressed up and looks great, and the room is full of old friends and soon-to-be friends. As the years pass, that feeling of being "home" is even more important to me than ever. BALIF is home. BALIF is a safe, supporting place where we take care of each other. I couldn't be prouder of the work we are doing. BALIF is filing an amicus brief in the United States Supreme Court later this week in the marriage equality case. Thank you to everyone who has worked on it and the hard-fought cause of marriage equality. Our mentorship program has been a huge success with dozens of successful pairings; stay tuned for the reinstatement of the Mentor of the Year award. And BALIF's board election is rapidly coming up. I invite you to contact Peter Catalanotti, [email protected], if you'd like to join the fantastic, hard-working and always inspirational BALIF Board. More details below.
I hope to see you at the Gala on March 13! No, I will plan on it! See you there!
Jamie Dupree

Join the BALIF Board of Directors-
BALIF Board 2015 Elections
|
A great way to serve the LGBT legal community and become more involved in BALIF is to join BALIF's Board of Directors. BALIF's Directors are elected by the BALIF membership, and each Director holds office for two years. Any BALIF member is welcome to run for the Board or nominate another BALIF member. BALIF's bylaws reflect the Board's commitment to "equality, parity, and diversity," and we specifically encourage people of color, women, and transgender and/or gender non-conforming individuals to run for the Board. All Directors must attend BALIF's Board Retreat the weekend of April 25, 2015
To run for the Board or nominate someone else, please send a candidate statement of up to 250 words to Pete Catalanotti ([email protected]) and BALIF's Administrator, Katie Carlson ([email protected]) by March 15, 2015 at 5:00 pm. BALIF's bylaws require gender parity on the Board, with a certain number of positions allocated to Directors who identify as male, female, and gender non-conforming. So if you are seeking a position, please indicate the category with which you identify.
Elections will be online starting on April 1, 2015 and there will be an opportunity to vote in person at BALIF's annual general membership meeting on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 from 6 - 8:30 p.m. The results will be announced at the end of the meeting.
Questions about the Board? Thinking about seeking a position? Feel free to contact Peter Catalanotti at [email protected]
