Message from the BALIF Board
|
Greetings!
I hope that you all had a nice and relaxing holiday with friends, family, and significant others. I had a lovely day, spending it in Miami with my partner's family stuffing my face full of Cuban-style pork and black beans (for my money, pork beats turkey any day!).
As we kick off the holiday season and the accompanying holiday parties, make sure that December 18 from 5:30 - 9:00 p.m. is blocked off for the best one: BALIF's annual Holiday Party, Wednesday, December 18, from 5:30- 9:00 pm at the hip Tank 18 wine bar in Soma. RSVP on the BALIF website.
We will, of course, be celebrating a momentous year in the advancement of gay rights. We will also be honoring Munger Tolles & Olson LLP with the BALIF Community Service Award for their many contributions to those advancements. It's an event you will not want to miss.
That's it for now - but if you see one of our law school members in the next week or two, be sure to wish them good luck on finals (and buy them a cup of coffee if they look exhausted!).
Nick Clements

Therese Stewart is Seeking BALIF's Endorsement for the California Court of Appeals-- We Want Your Vote!!
|
The BALIF Judiciary Committee is privileged to recommend that BALIF endorse SF City Attorney, Therese Stewart, for a position on the California Court of Appeals, First Appellate Division. Therese Stewart was an active participant in the Prop 8 litigation and has worked tirelessly on marriage equality and other issues of importance to the LGBT community. If appointed, she will be the first out lesbian appellate justice in the State of California .
THE CHOICE IS YOURS: To complete the endorsement process, we need your vote!
The Judiciary Committee implemented a fair and unbiased candidate endorsement process. Certified members of the Committee evaluated Therese's responses to a written questionnaire, completed reference checks, and conducted an in-person interview with the candidate. The Committee's recommendations are not binding on BALIF. BALIF members have a vote. BALIF members are free to adopt or reject the recommendation of the Committee as to any particular candidate.
VOTING IS EASY: Just go online or return your paper ballot by December 10, 2013!
You can vote online using a simple electronic voting system - be on the lookout for ballot instructions in your email inbox and check your spam folder if you didn't receive them. Paper ballots are also available. All ballots must be completed online or postmarked by December 10, 2013.
If you have trouble logging in, please contact our Administrator, Katie at balif@balif.org.
