Message from the BALIF Board
|
Greetings!
As we patiently await the Prop 8 and DOMA decisions tomorrow, the BALIF Board of Directors has been reviewing all the hard work of our members and celebrating the coalitions we have built along the way. It has filled us all with a great sense of pride. Once the decisions are announced, look for BALIF's statement, which will recap BALIF's and our supportive coalitions' contributions toward marriage equality.
However SCOTUS decides these two momentous cases, there is still a lot of work to do to achieve full equality under the law and in the eyes of our fellow Americans and the world. Where do you see the LGBT civil rights movement in 5 or 10 years? Where do you think we should spend our time, energy and money? How will you contribute?
Pride week is in full swing and we look forward to seeing many of you at the festivities. Please check out http://balif.org/events for a full list of our events. Don't forget to join BALIF and Jones Day for the 5th Annual Pride Breakfast Celebration this Sunday before you head out to the Pride Parade.
Happy Pride everyone! Let's make it another one to remember!

Prenup is not a Dirty Word: Marrying and Registering with Heart and Smarts
|
Marriage. It's in the air. And in the courts. And all over the press. Marriage is a civil right, marriage is romantic .... and marriage is a contract with your partner. Unless you specify otherwise, the terms of the contract are pre-written by the state. This contract is the only contract most people enter into without reading or knowing the terms. In fact - where can one even find those terms? If you are considering marrying and/or domestic partnering, we encourage you to think about what you want your marriage or registered partnership to look like. Do the rights and obligations set by the state fit your relationship - or do you want to customize them?
Join us July 25, 2013!
The LGBT Center
1800 Market Street
San Francisco, CA 94102
In this workshop, we will address: - Why do a pre-nup? (Or not!)
- What can we address in a pre-nup? - How can we go about creating a pre-nup?
Presenters are: Charles Spiegel (charlesspiegellaw.com), Heba Nimr (hebanimr.com), and Dylan Miles (milesfamilylaw.com)
