Hey team!
Tonight we are letting email list subscribers get dibs on pre-ordering the new rekkid from Seattle, WA's Dust Moth, before announcing it publicly tommorrow! We're going to lay out a bunch of info here, so if you don't care about that kinda thing and just want to get yo pre-orda on, then you're encouraged to scroll down until you start seeing sexy vinyl mock-ups. For those of you that like to read and know the deetz, lets get it on!
This is their debut full length and follows up their 2013 split 7" with LA-rock-legends-in-the-making Aeges, and also the debut EP from 2014, Dragon Mouth. Both of those titles are currently OUT OF PRINT, so you could say that the band is being well-received :) And these are already in-house and will begin shipping out a couple weeks ahead of street date :)
Here at the Sheath, we have a long history of putting out crazy amazing records for crazy amazing bands before they go on to become 'household' names. We then see them go on to get signed by larger labels with bountiful resources to expand said bands 'fanbases', etc. Honestly, it is as bittersweet as it is encouraging. But we get it. In the past we've seen Junius move on to Prosthetic Records, Caspian went to Triple Crown, If These Trees Could Talk got signed to Metal Blade, Aeges was swiftly snatched up by Another Century / Century Media, etc. So all we're sayin' is...
GREAT SHIT GETS PUT OUT BY THE SHEATH FIRST...
...AND AS Y'ALL KNOW, IF YOU AIN'T SHEATH, YOU AIN'T SHIT.

OK, we need to just shut up now :) But here's a pretty easy prediction: this band here, they're going to be freaking HUGE. And maybe we'll even be able to hang on to 'em :)
But you really shouldn't take our word for it, we're biased after all. So how about taking the word of some of musics' most trusted critics, such as Decibel Magazine, who says: "the richly scented air of mystery and obsession Scale' exudes from the beginning lingers long after the album is over". Which is quite appropriate indeed! Or how about NPR, who claims that "Thick riffs rumble in and out of heavy atmospheres, with sludgy guitar, melodic bass way out front, and muscular drumming that swings like a thumping heart". Too true! Or the fine folks at The Stranger, who feel this is "a girthful slab of majestic, melodic metal". Yup! The gang at Svbterranean goes so far as to say "The thunderous rhythm section, the shape-shifting guitars, the serene atmospheres and the entrancing vocal work come together damn near perfectly on this release". We could go on all day! But you're probably getting tired of us hyping it up and ready to get goin' :)
So lets talk a bit about the band in question, shall we? Dust Moth is comprised of current & former members of These Arms Are Snakes, Narrows, and Giza. Matt Bayles (Mastodon, ISIS, Pearl Jam) produced this, their debut full length. He is a founding member of the band, but the demand for his production/engineering work has kept him from being able to stay a full time touring member. So he continues to contribute to some of the writing and, of course, all the recording studio wizardry. But the main three song-writing gurus on this opus were Ryan Fredricksen, Irene Barber and Steve Becker, and they NAILED IT.
"Hi. We nailed it."
You still seem to need proof, so check out the first single from the album, Lift. NPR was keen to premier this track for us a few weeks back, and you can check it out HERE.
The second single, Shelf Life, will be premiered via the cool cats at Vice's Noisey website on Monday, 6/27. As soon as it's live we'll alert everyone via social media, because the track is a #1 stunna!
In the meantime, if you'd like to get a sneak peek at a couple other tracks, you can visit Charliez Angelz Youtube page as we used some of the tunage in a couple of the dog videos. You can check those videos out HERE and HERE.
The new track is bound to knock your socks off, but don't worry, we teamed up with our pals at Ci3 Sublimation to print some socks using the album artwork :) They came out supah awesome, and they can be purchased below as well. Please hit up Ci3 Sublimation for all your printing needs. They can print on just about anything, and the dude that runs it made legendary mixtapes back in the early 90's that changed small town punk kids' lives forever :) Visit the joint RIGHT HERE.
OK, now lets talk vinyl! As far as LP packaging, we does our thang once 'gain. Matte laminated jackets with spot gloss and several vinyl colors to choose from, all that! Check out this vicious spot gloss:

Now it's time to get all biographical! (this BIO brought to you courtesy the inimitable bass guitar genius mastermind Brian Cook of Russian Circles, Sumac, These Arms Are Snakes, Botch fame. He's also a freakin' awesome writer... of course):
"Robert Plant argued against Led Zeppelin's supposed role as progenitors of heavy metal, stating that the band had always been more interested in the sultriness of American blues than the brute force of the hard rock hordes they'd inspired. Regardless of their motives, Zeppelin helped define "heavy". You don't have a drummer that pounds with that much authority, a guitarist that plays with such panache, and a vocalist that wails with such intensity and merely chalk it up to following musical traditions. Similarly, "heavy" isn't the sole motivating force behind Seattle quartet Dust Moth. If anything, they're trying to channel some other permutation of the soulful, animalistic beat that drove Plant and his compatriots. But as history has shown us, you can't have a burly rhythm section, searing riffs, and forlorn vocals without the hordes taking you in as one of their own.
Dust Moth first stormed out of the gates as a six-piece juggernaut of veterans from Seattle's music community. Their debut EP Dragon Mouth was a tightly crafted amalgam of rhythmic brawn, mournful melodies, and dreamy atmospherics. It was as if the bass and drum combo of Jawbox was paired with the guitar work of Doves and capped off with the assertively feminine vocals of Chelsea Wolfe. Now pared down to a quartet, Dust Moth offer up their first full-length Scale. Driven by the haunting vocals and ethereal keyboards of Irene Barber (Erik Blood, XVIII Eyes), the alternately soothing and devastating guitars of Ryan Frederiksen (These Arms Are Snakes, Narrows), the syncopated thump of bassist Steve Becker (Giza), and the muscular drumming of Justin Rodda (Giza), the new streamlined incarnation of Dust Moth retains their layered and nuanced sound while tightening the focus on their "heavy-gaze" approach. Songs like "Corrections" and "Lift" carry more distorted urgency and instrumental heft than anything in the band's previous repertoire. On the opposite end of the spectrum, songs like "Night Wave" and "A Veil in Between" demonstrate the band's new less-is-more approach towards mournful atmospherics.
Given Dust Moth's dynamic range, it's hardly surprising that they've been able to share the stage with such diverse bands as Minus the Bear, Pelican, and Tombs. Following a west coast run with cerebral metallurgists Kayo Dot, the band reformulated their line-up and began constructing the nine songs that would comprise Scale. The album was recorded by Matt Bayles (Pearl Jam, ISIS, Mastodon) at Red Room Studio in Seattle and mastered by Ed Brooks at RFI. The Mylene Sheath is proud to release Scale worldwide on July 22nd 2016."

Special Cover Edition
So we normally do 25 test presses for a release and then make some neat, handmade, DIY-style covers for them. However, when the final shipment of these beauties arrived at HQ, there were no additional test presses sent :( But as always, one hand will wash the other, and it just so happens that there were some overages in the pressing. We didn't want the covers to go to waste, and washed hands always need something to dry themselves with, so here's a hand dyed 'Dust Cloth' cover with a moth spray-painted in the middle, all secured to a durable cork backing. So there's 25 of these special cover editions and all include the clear w/red center & black, red & yellow splatter. Not quite a Test Press, but still super unique and limited :) Thus, they are a little more expensive because they're handmade and because this is the most limited version of the release! Holla!
- Test Press, hand-numbered out of 25 copies w/special tie-dyed covers.
