Hey guys!

Welcome to the April Newsletter, friends! Spring is here and in full bloom - just in time for some candy chompin' and colored eggin' :) And lets not forget it's the time to shine for the ever enigmatic Easter Mascot, the beloved Easter Bunny. Which, when you think about it, seems like a bit of a perplexing concept, right? Where does it comes from? And why? Well, we decided to roll up our sleeves, dig in really hard and do about five minutes of webby research to try and see what we could uncover for everyone. Here's what we uncovered...

While it appears unconfirmed where the absolute origins of the Easter Bunny begin (many believe it to be of Pagan origin around the 13th century), what does seem definitive is that the first written documentation of the Easter Bunny is in 1682, by a German professor named Georg Franck von Franckenau in his essay "De ovis paschalibus (On Easter-Eggs)", in which he writes:

"In Alsace and the neighboring regions those eggs are called rabbit-eggs because of the myth that is told to make the simple-minded and children believe that the Easter Rabbit was laying and hiding them in the grass of the gardens, so the children search them even more eagerly, for the delectation of the smiling adults."

Is there any doubt why the Easter Bunnies in this newsletter look so maniacal? Well, they obviously live their lives with Santa's dark shadow cast over them. One could assume they are envious of his notoriety and preference among the children. But I digress, apparently the bunny came to represent the Virgin Mary through the belief that they could reproduce without the loss of virginity. How that came to mean that giant bunnies would bring gifts to children to keep them in good behavior - I dunno. But we do have some FUNNY BUNNY facts!

The largest ever Easter egg hunt was in Florida, where 9,753 children searched for 501,000 eggs.

In the USA, 90 million chocolate bunnies and 91.4 billion eggs are produced each year.

The tallest chocolate Easter egg was made in Italy in 2011, it was taller than a giraffe and heavier than an elephant.

- Households spend $131 on Easter each year, $14.7 billion in total.

- Yellow Peeps are the most popular, followed by pink, lavender, blue and white.

- 76% of people eat the ears on chocolate bunnies first.

- Americans consume over 16 million jellybeans on Easter, enough to circle the globe three times over.

So there's some info to arm yourself with if you happen to be in need of a conversation starter at at Easter dinner... or during Passover... or during some random sandwich on your lunch break. Hope you all have fun with loved ones, whatever you celebrate :)

We've been waiting for this one like impatient children on xmas eve (or children on Easter eve, we should say - sorry Easter Bunny!) ever since we heard the original demos last year, and the time is finally coming!! This summer we'll be dropping Equal/Opposite, the debut full length from Minot!!! We're cooperating on the release of this one with our good European friends over at Golden Antenna (Maserati, From Monument To Masses), who will be releasing the album in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Netherlands, and Luxembourg. We'll be revealing some of the killer tunes contained on this LP over the next few weeks, but in the meantime you can check out a tune from their debut EP An Era Of Institutional Failure that also appears on the new LP - bang Unredacted HERE

If These Trees Could Talk
Self-Titled &
Above The Earth, Below The Sky 2xLP
It's hard to believe we've put out fifty freaking records, right? To commemorate our fiftieth release as a record label, we decided to go back to where it all started; Sheath001, the self-titled debut from If These Trees Could Talk :) Then we figured why not package it up with their second LP Above The Earth, Below The Sky, as a brand new, deluxe 2xLP? But why stop there? Lets commission long-time ITTCT & Sheath collaborator Charlie Wagers to create all new artwork with embossed jackets???? Yes, we are doing all these things!! Along with a special poster commemorating the big 5-0 :) Details and pre-order info coming soon - stay tuned guys!!

Oh, and I'll just leave this here...

Monthly Message Board Contest
In case you missed last months lovely newsletter, we have started doing monthly contests on our message board. Why? Well, several reasons, one is that we just love to give shit away - look at the prices we charge for records ;) But the more important reason is that we love our message board, have had a lot of fun with it over the years, and met some really cool people that we went on to hug & thug with in various cities. In the modern age of Facebook / Reddit / Twitter / Tumblr, etc. message boards seem to have become the dinosaur of the social media world. That's cool, but there was a time when vinyl was the dinosaur of the music format world, and we were the dummies sitting there putting out vinyl :) So likewise, we're not willing to give up on our message board. You WILL come here... maybe at first for free stuff, but in the end, you won't be able to leave... join us....

Anyways, our contest this month is the final TEST PRESS we have of the Well Worn split 12" between Gifts From Enola and Topshelf Records' Caravels! You might remember when we sold a few of these last Cyber Monday and they were outski almost immediately:

How do you win it? Just head over to THIS THREAD and tell us how much you love it and talk about why this is quite possibly the best split 12" to ever get sick widdit! Sound easy? IT IS!

Speaking of easy contests, we did this one last month for a freaking TEST PRESS of Caspian's legendary debut 12" You Are The Conductor. You can check out the contest HERE. We are pleased to now announce the winner of that contest is board member....

Caspian
You Are The Conductor 12"
repress
We are repressing the monster debut EP from the almighty Caspian. This time we're rackin' up 1000 copies split across 4 different colors, broken down like this:
  • 100 clear vinyl w/translucent green & opaque mint green splatter
  • 200 clear vinyl w/olive green swirl
  • 300 translucent coke bottle green vinyl
  • 400 black vinyl
The packaging on this one will go back to the 20pt stock jackets from the first pressing, this time with a semi-gloss finish. And we opted for a full color, two sided insert this time, instead of printed inner sleeves (because those always get torn in transit, right???). Rock and roll! You can pre-order it HERE NOW. It should be wrapping up production during the first week of May, so orders should be shipping out pretty soon. Thanks guys.

Aaaaaand...

Saint Boris Lost His Pot Of Gold!
***CASE UPDATE***

Many of you might remember this tragedy that occurred in last months newsletter? Well we've got an update on the ongoing investigation below. If you missed this last month, here's a quick recap:

"As you can see in the picture above, Boris had himself quite a fortune in gold coins! However, he took a break from guarding them at the end of the rainbow the other day to pack some records in the warehouse, and that's the last time he saw any of his riches!! He thinks he may have accidentally dropped some of the coins into the inventory he was shelving? So be on the lookout in your orders throughout the month of March, because each order placed this month could potentially contain one of the coins! If you're one of the lucky ones that gets a gold coin, you can tag us in a pic of your coinage on Instagram, post a pic on our message board, or tweet us a pic of it and Boris will gift you a copy of a limited variant from our next three preorders!!!! Place an order this month an see if ye has the luck of the Irish!!

p.s. the coins have special leprechaun markings, so counterfeiting attempts will be easily caught ;) Boris knows his gold..."

*UPDATE*

Some of his coins were found this month!

The lucky peeps that found some of his gold coinage were rewarded by receiving the most limited variant of our next three releases FOR FREE! Don't ever say Boris doesn't reward handsomely!! Who knows, there may be some more coins out there somewhere...  or maybe there's just this...

So much awesomeness in the pipeline - stay tuned fam!!
