The Junior Board completed its first full fiscal year and we are excited to announce that, since our inception in January 2011, we have raised more than $27,000 to benefit FSW and the children and youth in their programs. Thanks to our generous supporters, we were able to distribute $8,000 in grants during the 2011-2012 fiscal year. These grants afforded underprivileged youth with opportunities to enlighten their lives, expand their world, and give them a chance to experience what more fortunate Westchester County children do. Read more about the Junior Board's grant awards below.
We are pleased to announce that Leslie Chang has been appointed Chair and Karen Beatty Vice Chair for the 2012 - 2013 fiscal year. Leslie and Karen are excited to build on a terrific year of success by increasing our Circle of Friends and expanding our outreach and fundraising. We extend our gratitude to last year's Co-Presidents, Amy Cole and Robin Bratone, who remain members of the Junior Board.
As we now kick off our second fiscal year, we welcome six new board members and a Junior Board Council of non-voting members who will participate on committees.
We appreciate your continued support and commitment to the Junior Board of FSW and to helping us make a real difference. We always welcome your questions, comments or suggestions. Feel free to email us at fswjrboard@gmail.com and be sure to "Like Us" on Facebook. We look forward to working with you again over the coming year! |

Junior Board Sends Boys from Community Residence to Washington DC | |
Of all the grants awarded by the Junior Board, one of the most noteworthy is the grant that allowed five youth from FSW's Community Residence to visit Washington DC. The young men who live at the Community Residence are 13 to 18 years old and are diagnosed with SED (Severe Emotional Disturbance). The group visited all of the famous landmarks, including the Lincoln Memorial,Washington Monument, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. Not only was it the first out-of-state trip for these young men, but also their first opportunity to enjoy the comfort of a hotel. For these youth, an overnight field trip is much more than recreational; it is an opportunity to escape their sense of isolation and enjoy the camaraderie of a group. The experience of participating in the public setting is also invaluable for these boys as they cultivate their socialization skills. The Junior Board was pleased to offer these youth such a therapeutic and unique opportunity. For more information on all of the grants we awarded in our first 18 months, click here.

Junior Board Announces New Grants Awarded | | Both recipients of the Fall grant awards are FSW respite programs for youth with severe emotional disturbance (SED). The first grant will allow children in the Social Stars After School Program to enjoy a field trip to the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum on a day that the children would normally be home from school. The second grant will fund a Young Women's Peer Group that will meet biweekly through February and culminate with a trip to Manhattan to see Bring It On: The Musical on Broadway. Both opportunities will help foster healthy peer relationships, socialization and exposure to a new world of magic, heroism, and culture.
