JULY 2016 NEWS AT BIKRAM YOGA BALTIMORE 

Happy Summer! Sometimes during the peak of summer you feel like it's hotter outside than it is in the hot room! This may or may not be true, but do remember that this is a great time to advance your practice. While our hot room will always be 105 degrees and sunny, your body will come to class already warm (unlike winter when you need time to thaw out!). Coming in with your body already adjusted to the warmer temperatures allows you to go deeper into your postures and maximize the medical benefits. As long as you are consciously hydrating (no, the iced coffees don't count...!) you will see great improvements in your practice this summer.

We have some exciting changes happening at BYB. While change is sometimes hard, in this case it is the best for our school and our students. Our Cockeysville studio is also turning 14 YEARS OLD this month. Be ready to celebrate this amazing milestone and other great happenings with us!

Continue to enjoy your yoga as you enjoy this summer season. Send us updates of you doing yoga during your beach travels. We love to see the BYB Family sharing their practice with the world. And when you're not away, always remember it's always 105 and sunny in the hot room!

COMING THIS AUGUST:
The New and Improved Locust Point!
We have some VERY exciting news to share about BYB Locust Point! Our studio is moving to another building at McHenry Row on the opposite side of the baseball fields.

This is a very positive change for our school and our students. We hope you're as excited as we are! We will still be within the McHenry Row plaza and next to all of its niceties, AND we will have the bonus of a gas versus an electric heating system, which means more consistent and reliable temperatures for our classes! We will also still have 2 spacious locker rooms and a hot room that will comfortably fit 30+ students per class.

The current target re-open date for the new and improved Locust Point will be August 1st. We hope to not have any class disruption or closure during the construction process, though we ask for your patience and understanding as the moving process unfolds. Please know we will keep you closely updated and make sure the transition to the new space is as smooth as possible for everyone.

If you need to talk about any of these changes, please send us an email. We will gladly address any concerns you have. And make sure to keep your calendar open for our Grand Re-Opening in August! It's going to be fantastic!
Trikanasana: Triangle Pose
July Posture of the Month!
Triangle Pose: The Master Pose, The Perfect Pose. A marriage between your heart and your lungs. That's right, Triangle marks the peak of the Standing Series and is a full body workout all on its own! As you can see, the goal is to create the shape of a triangle with your body at the connecting points between your fingertips and each set of toes. You also create a triangle between your chest and your thigh by keeping the rib cage up off the leg and the fingertips stretching up toward the ceiling. This posture is all about the set up. Make sure your two heels are in one line on the floor, and both knees are in one line from the side. Hips should be down low enough such that your femur bone is exactly parallel to the floor and your spine is perfectly straight in the center (without your butt sticking out behind you). Both arms are stretching apart in opposite directions in one line from the front and from the side views. Your chin touches your top arm shoulder as you reach way up to the ceiling to get that nice spine twist. There are many things to think about in this posture, but it also comes with many benefits. Through the spine twisting action, you will relieve lower back pain and rheumatism. Triangle also works the heart and the lungs and stretches the veins, creating many cardiovascular benefits. The positioning of the limbs in the posture also allows you to work multiple muscles, joints, bones, nerves, and internal organs at the same time. So next class, get geometric and do your best triangle yet!

WELCOME Ian and Karmeshia!
You may have seen some new faces around our studio, and perhaps you've even gotten the chance to take their classes! We'd like to welcome Ian Rausch and Karmeshia Rice to the BYB Staff! Ian comes to us from Boston, MA where he taught for Bikram Yoga Boston for two years. Also a carpenter, He is now residing in Baltimore with his wife, Beth and their 6 month old son, Elliot.

Karmeshia comes to us having gone to training with our dear Maisha in Spring 2014. She has been teaching in the area for some time, but is excited to now be entering into the BYB family. Karmeshia is also an LCPC at a local counseling firm. Ian and Karmeshia will be subbing for classes throughout the summer, so definitely give them your best BYB welcome and take in all they have to offer! 
Reminder: Extension and Hold Policy
We know many of you have vacations planned this summer and will ask to have your memberships placed on hold for them. As you work your yoga membership around your summer plans, be mindful of our extension/hold policies:

* Any membership may be put on hold any one time without incurring any additional fees. VIP members: you may hold your membership up to 1 month and still continue on your way to your 13th month free. 2 Weeks' Notice is required for any auto debit charge hold or cancellation.

* Additional extensions on class cards must be approved by management and are subject to a $10/week fee.

*  Expired classes are always eligible for rollover onto a new class card membership you purchase. 

* We will hold memberships for medical reasons, but such holds must be approved by management and may not be applied retroactively.

* Introductory memberships (Ignite! Special or Groupon) are not eligible holds or extensions for any reason.

Our Cockeysville studio will be turning 14 years old on
Friday, July 22nd! Make every effort to come to class that day and celebrate with us! We are so grateful to our community, especially the students who have been here all 14 years. We look forward to year 15 and beyond!

July is CHALLENGE Month!
Summer is the perfect time to dedicate a little extra energy to yourself. After all, you've got to take care of yourself so you can be better for everyone and everything else that's important to you in your life. So... we've dubbed July CHALLENGE MONTH!

You may have heard rumors about a group of yogis preparing for the Backbending Challenge this month. For each day of the month, you do that many standing backbends, bow poses, and camels. Always end with a spine twist. So on July 2nd, you do 2 of each, and on July 15th you do 15 of each, etc. Deduct the postures you do in class. You will see you body morph in no time! Check in with Eddie or Emily to make sure your form is just right and to be in touch with the group for buddies!

But... your challenge may be something different. Our instructor, Leslie, will be aiming to nail her Full Camel at the end of July. Another student will be standing still every class. Another student will be holding her Cobra pose as long as possible keeping her ankles straight.

Pick your challenge and change your body (and your life) this summer!
