Thank goodness... after a gloomy and rainy month of May, we made it to summer! Now is the time to kick your regular yoga practice into gear and start turning heads at the beach! We know many of you have vacations and other activities planned for the warm weather, but remember, you never have to worry about it being warm and sunny at BYB. Your yoga mat never fails you at being a 90 minute vacation spot whenever you need one! But there are plenty more benefits to a consistent summer practice. You will come to class already warmer from the outside temperatures in the summer, which means your flexibility will be at its peak. You will move more freely and get more out of each posture. Your body will learn to tolerate the extra heat and humidity outdoors, too. We have some amazing things in store for June and beyond, so keep on coming and don't miss out on the fun!

What is a Master Class? You don't have to be a master, don't worry! You get your yoga class as always - from a master teacher, who has extra wisdom to share. Class will run longer than usual, as there may be some stopping and starting for time for teaching.

What is a Shapeshifting/Posture Workshop? Much like our monthly posture clinics, Mary will go through the postures of the Bikram series and bring out essentials for you to focus on to gain the maximum benefits. She can also share knowledge on additional stretches to aid progress in your yoga practice. Her scope of knowledge goes so far that she can address the most basic practice points for those who are facing major injuries or recoveries, all the way up to those who are ready to advance their practice further - for this reason, her clinics and tips have become known as Shapeshifting. As we all know; if you practice with precision of intent, you can change your body, your mind, your life. What shift will you begin?

*Note: Times are approximate, and Master Classes run tend to run longer than the standard 90 minutes. Mary has a lot of valuable information to share! Master Classes will replace the normally scheduled classes at each studio at their respective times. Regular BYB memberships will not apply. 
 
Locust Pose (Salabhasana)
June Posture of the Month!
Locust Pose: always a crowd favorite. It's easy to shy away from this posture because it's not comfortable for the vast majority of the yogi population. But the best things in life don't always come easily, right? Locust Pose is the second one we do in the spine strengthening series, and targets the upper spine. You begin with your arms underneath your body, hands spread out flat facing the floor. With a locked knee and pointed toes, you lift one leg up at a time, first the right then the left, making sure to keep everything in perfect alignment. Your knee faces directly downward with the sole of your foot facing the ceiling (not turned out), while the leg on the floor remains completely relaxed. After doing each leg separately, you lift both legs up at the same time. Keep your shoulders down in this part of the posture as best you can, so you use the strength of your upper back in conjunction with your palms against the floor to lift the lower half of your body in the air. You may only lift a couple of inches at first--that's ok! With time you will gain the strength and flexibility to get higher and higher. While this posture can be a tough one, it tones the gluteal muscles and the legs; relieves the symptoms of sciatica, slipped discs, and tennis elbow; improves varicose veins; boosts circulation, particularly in the arms; and gives you a beautifully sculpted upper body. Definitely don't skip this if you're trying to stand out on the beach this summer!

Reminder: Extension and Hold Policy
We know many of you have vacations planned this summer and will ask to have your memberships placed on hold for them. As you work your yoga membership around your summer plans, be mindful of our extension/hold policies:

* Any membership may be put on hold any one time without incurring any additional fees. VIP members: you may hold your membership up to 1 month and still continue on your way to your 13th month free. 2 Weeks' Notice is required for any auto debit charge hold or cancellation.

* Additional extensions on class cards must be approved by management and are subject to a $10/week fee.

*  Expired classes are always eligible for rollover onto a new class card membership you purchase. 

* We will hold memberships for medical reasons, but such holds must be approved by management and may not be applied retroactively.

* Introductory memberships (Ignite! Special or Groupon) are not eligible holds or extensions for any reason.

Congratulations Champions!
We are so proud of our BYB All-Stars Leo Szymanski and Anne Johnson who competed in the National Yoga Asana Championships hosted by USA Yoga in Jackson Hole, Wyoming last month! Leo cleaned up as 3rd Place Overall in the Senior Men's Division, and Anne was so stunning in the Pre-Qualifier Round, she was able to rock the Semi-Finals, too. Give them a high five when you see them next! Congrats!
