Spring has sprung! Hopefully you've been enjoying walking out of the hot room and feeling the fresh spring air on your face. It's as refreshing as the class itself, isn't it?

Our Challengers have started their season off on the right foot! We are amazed at the improvement and commitment to a consistent yoga practice, and to those backbends! Several of you really stepped up and realized that yoga CAN happen every day! But a sincere congratulations are due to all of you who completed your Challenge goals. We hope you will take this energy into the next phase of your yoga lives! Yoga always gets better with frequency and time.

With the changing seasons comes the tendency to feel like the room is hotter and the humidity is higher. Not true. Our hot room is always 105 and sunny, but when the outside world changes temperature, so do you! Be mindful of this as we transition into the warmer months of the year. Drink plenty of water, eat good healthy food, and enjoy the benefits of the heat. That extra stretch or extra kick will suddenly get a little easier!

Spring is a transition. It's a time to renew, restart, and rejuvenate. Let the yoga be your refresh button. You don't have to work hard to feel the benefits; you just need to walk through the front door and let the yoga work for you.

APRIL POSTURE CLINIC

Tax season is coming to a close, spring breaks are over, and you're busy doing a slew of other activities--it's the perfect month to do a Posture Clinic on breathing! During this clinic we'll discuss how to coordinate your breath in several postures so you can perform them better, and how to maintain your breath throughout class so you can maximize your meditation. This is one you don't want to miss!

TADASANA (TREE POSE)
April Posture of the Month
It's Tree pose: Tadaaaaaasana (as Eddie would say!). Tree pose, which gets paired up with Toe Stand, centers us perfectly so we can conclude the Standing Series and begin "the real yoga" on the floor. Tree pose is only done once on each side, so you need to make it count! You begin by picking up your foot, pulling it up toward the bellybutton. Aim for your heel to end up at your hip bone with the bottom of your foot facing the ceiling. You can continue holding your foot in your hand, similar to a bicep curl. Your other hand will go to your chest in Namaskar, and eventually, both hands will be in Namaskar. Your hips and shoulders should be in one line both from the front and from the side, your spine perfectly straight, and as always, your standing leg  locked solid. Tree pose may not seem like one of the more glamorous postures we do in Bikram Yoga, but it's incredibly important for your focus, calming your breath, and securing balance in both body and mind. Additionally, it increases flexibility in the ankle, knee, and hip joints, stabilizes the pelvis improving your overall posture, and stretches the oblique muscles in the abdomen. So next time you do Tree Pose, be tall and proud, finish strong, and give yourself a wink and a smile before you hit the floor.
