SPRING FORWARD!

Spring is coming soon! Don't forget to set your clocks forward 1 hour on
Sunday, March 13th!

Greetings yogis! Spring is just around the corner, and what better way to get it started than with lots of yoga! For the month of March we're hosting a Bikram Challenge! If you've never done one before, there's still time to join us! Just click this link to purchase the Challenge membership before the 5th of the month (if you're an unlimited yogi, no need. Take advantage of what you have!).

Many yogis have set their Challenge goals already. It's amazing how much can change in 31 days (read the buzz about it in the Wall Street Journal). But even if you can't come to yoga every day, try to push yourself beyond your norm. If you're currently coming twice per week, try for three times. If you currently take weekends off, try adding in a Saturday class. Whatever your Challenge, do it in the spirit of improving your practice, your mindfulness, your breathing, and your health!

We also have some exciting news to share. Our very own Anne Johnson
placed 2nd in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Yoga Asana Championships for the second year in a row! She'll be heading to Nationals in Jacksonville, WY in May! Leo Szymanski cleaned up the Senior Men's Division, and Heather Pruger performed her most beautiful routine yet! We're so proud of all three of you, and inspired by the courage and grace you displayed on stage.

We had an amazing backbending Posture Clinic last month, too. Don't miss the next one! Especially during the Challenge, our Posture Clinic is the chance to fuel your yoga energy, find new postures goals, and answer your burning questions.

Looking forward to seeing you all bloom into newer and better yogis by March 31st! Just in time for spring:)

With love,
Eddie and Emily

SASANGASANA (RABBIT POSE)
March Posture of the Month
In light of the upcoming Easter holiday, Rabbit pose seemed the best choice as the posture of the month! Rabbit pose is one of the last in the Bikram series and is the deepest forward bend we do in the class. You begin with the feet together, thumbs outside and fingers inside, with a tight grip on the heels (it may take a little while to get a tight grip from the start, and that's ok!). Your ankle bones should touch each other and the tops of the feet should be flat on the floor. Take in a deep inhale as you suck your stomach in tight, and on the exhale, tuck the chin in to the chest, and you slowly roll your spine down until the forehead touches the knees and the top of the head touches the floor. Once your head is in position, you lift the hips off of the heels and continue to roll forward toward the mirror. But don't roll too far: you should have very little weight on the head and neck. Your arms should pull on the heels, keeping your hips up, with shoulders lifting up toward the ceiling. If your knees don't quite touch the forehead yet, just gently walk the knees forward one by one until they do! You know you've mastered Rabbit pose when you feel the entire length of your spine stretching equally from coccyx to the neck. Regardless of where you are in the posture, though, it comes with many benefits! The forward neck compression stimulates the thyroid and parathyroid glands, helping to relieve common cold symptoms and other sinus trouble (another "flu shot" posture!). Rabbit also brings fresh oxygen and circulation to the nerves in the spine as you stretch. Finally, Rabbit pose relieves back and neck tension, and stretches the shoulders, giving you energy to finish out the series. So next time you feel yourself slowing down at the end of class, just "hop to it" and do your best Rabbit pose to give you a boost!

ALWAYS REMEMBER...
Bikram Yoga Baltimore is a locally owned and operated business.
Your membership dollars spent here contribute right back to the local economy and help our very special yoga family grow! There are a lot of options for yoga out there, but our studio keeps you investing in your yoga home right here in Baltimore.
FAREWELL ALLISON!
Allison One Legged Wheel Yes, our dear Allison Kinter is heading off to start a new job in New Jersey! Allison has been a teacher and manager for BYB for many years. While we're sad to see her go, we're very happy for her to start this new adventure in industrial psychology with Northrup Grumman. Good luck to you, Allison! Make sure to catch her class on or before her last day on March 8th!
TESTIMONIAL
A FUN, MEANINGFUL STORY FROM A LONG-TIME YOGI! Yoga is present everywhere!

"Thank you for the best studio ever. I started Bikram 9 years ago, and since then, my bone density improved, blood pressure went down, and a nasty tennis elbow disappeared. But really more than that, I am stronger and more flexible then I was 9 years ago. I will be 66 this spring and I love the quote on the wall... Now my favorite Bikram applied yoga story. A few years ago, I was traveling with my daughter (who had done some Bikram) and 2 grandsons, 3 and 5, in Mexico. Every time they didn't like something we would do the half moon and tell them to be flexible. One night, the 3 yr old said he played with Cindy and the game was dragon and princess. He allowed that he was the princess and Cindy was the dragon. His older brother was appalled and kept saying 'why would you be the princess?' Finally the 3 yr old put his arms above his head in a perfect half moon and said "I'm flexible."  -H. Gould
