Tis the season! The holidays will be here before you know it. This time of year is all about family, friends, and celebration. And we have so much to celebrate here at BYB! October marked our 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY of both marriage and since we took over the studio, and we are reminded of how special our yoga family is and how much we appreciate your dedication to the Bikram Yoga practice. We hope, despite the hustle and bustle that is the holiday season, you will continue to make time for yourself and your yoga. There's really no better place to be on these chilly days! And keeping up with yoga means that extra piece of pie at Thanksgiving dinner is really ok:) Happy holidays, BYB Yogis! Love, Eddie and Emily

 Congrats to our Challengers!
We are so proud of the over 40 yogis who signed up for our 30-Day Anniversary Challenge! They kicked off the Challenge on October 19th and have committed to 30 Classes in 30 Days. Keep cheering them on until they reach their final day of the Challenge on November 17th! If you are not currently participating in the Challenge, consider choosing a posture, or one aspect of your practice to improve this month. Maybe it's not skipping triangle, not fidgeting in savasana, or committing to locking that knee. Whatever you decide, celebrate the energy from your fellow yogis and every moment we spend in the hot room! Doing so will not only deepen your practice, while getting your mind and body ready for the holiday season!

Pavanamuktasana (Wind-Removing Pose)
November Posture of the Month!
After that big, ol' turkey dinner, this posture will feel extra good! Wind-removing pose is the gas relief posture (we know, not the best thing in the hot room, but that's what it's for!). Wind-removing pose is the first posture we do on the floor after we conclude the standing series with Savasana. You begin with the right leg, interlocking your ten fingers a couple of inches below the right knee. Pull the knee out, in, and down toward the right shoulder as hard as you can until the bicep muscle bulges. On this side, you'll be compressing the ascending colon. The left calf muscle should be on the floor, heel pressing toward the back wall, which gives you a nice stretch at the front of the hip flexor. Chin should be tucked tightly (triple chins!) so your neck, and eventually your total spine, are perfectly flat on the floor. When you repeat with the left leg up, you'll compress the descending colon. And in part three, you'll bring both legs up compressing the transverse colon (where all the junk food goes!). Make sure to pull down hard with your arms, at the same time you push your knees up into forearms to maximize compression in part three. This posture is excellent for maintaining digestive health and regularity, strengthening the arms, trimming up the leg and abdominal muscles, lengthening the spine, and loosening up tight hips! Enjoy it for its many benefits and a little extra relief after all your holiday feasts!

Karen Shinnick
November Teacher Highlight!
By far our most maternal instructor, and yoga mom to us all, Karen Shinnick is our November Teacher Highlight! While she teaches Bikram throughout the greater Baltimore area, Karen has had a home within the BYB family for many years. She went to training in Acapulco, Mexico in Spring 2008 and fell in love with the family camaraderie. She reflects that love in every class she teaches, looking out for every student as a part of a unified whole. Karen has always been involved in fitness, having managed several fitness centers in the Marine Corps Camp Pendelton, where she met her husband, Scott. Karen is a mother of three in addition to our staff of twelve! In the hot room, she is your instructor, your peer, and your friend. She will make sure you are taking care of your body, your mind, and your practice, no matter what kind of day you've had! Catch Karen substituting for us and enjoy a sweaty class that makes you feel amazing, inside and out!

November Posture Clinic
Our next Posture Clinic will be held at Cockeysville on Saturday, November 14th at 12pm! Posture Clinics are really valuable events at BYB. Not only do you receive more one-on-one attention with our expert instructors, but you also get to ask the questions you don't always get a chance to during class. And more importantly, you'll leave with more things to work on to keep your Bikram Yoga practice fresh and moving forward. See you on the 14th!
