October Teacher Highlights!
Our beloved yoga power couple is the feature duo for October! Not only will Eddie and Emily celebrate their 10 year wedding anniversary this month, but October 18th also marks 10 years that the Garners took over Bikram Yoga Baltimore and created what we now know as an ever-growing yoga family! Make sure to congratulate them on these two exciting milestones! In addition to growing our studio, the Garners have been growing their family legacy: now with baby Paige at nearly 14 weeks old, Marty at 17 months, and Charlie turning the corner on 5 years in January, they've got their hands full! Outside of being full-time yogis, Eddie has an extensive background in Opera music, having studied at Boston Conservatory as well as for two summers in Venice, Italy. Emily is a Butler graduate and also grew up as an artist, having been a ballerina for many years. The two met sharing a stage together during their performance days! Now they both share the podium as BYB's studio owners and master instructors. Both of the Garners have been practicing yoga for 10 years or longer, and continue to share their wealth of knowledge and deep understanding of each posture with their students. Each brings a special form of wit and wisdom to their teaching, allowing every yogi to take something meaningful with them after class. If you are new to BYB, new to Bikram Yoga, or just looking for a really great yoga experience, make sure to visit Eddie and Emily's classes at Cockeysville and Locust Point (and definitely consider attending their monthly Posture Clinics!). You will learn, sweat, and smile through every posture, and no doubt feel inspired to make Bikram Yoga a part of your healthy life! Fall is upon us! It's a wonderful time of year to practice yoga. The cooler fall air makes the hot room feel extra good! To kick off the season, we're jam-packed with great yoga happenings, including a studio-wide 30-Day Challenge! See below for details on how to join us. If you're not quite up to the Challenge, find just one or two things in your practice that you can improve in the next 30 days: maybe that's taking a full 2-minute Savasana at the end of class instead of running out the door, committing to both sets of standing head-to-knee, or sucking your stomach in a little extra tight in half moon. Whatever it is, embrace the changing seasons and commit to your best practice!

REMINDER: BACK-TO-YOGA-SCHOOL SCHEDULE!

Now that we're in Back-to-Yoga-School season, we have some scheduling updates for the Fall! 

8am Sunday at Locust Point has resumed

6pm Friday at Cockeysville has resumed

For now, the Monday/Wednesday 7:45pm classes at Cockeysville and Friday 4pm class at Locust Point will not be offered. 
With 54 classes available at BYB every week, we know you'll still find your perfect yoga schedule!

We have more Kids Yoga Classes starting this week! Miss Leslie will take young yogis through the postures of the Bikram series, condensed into a one hour class, in a room that's just a little less hot than it is for the grown-ups.

Head-to-Knee Pose (Janushirasana)
October Posture of the Month!
It's almost the end of class... you're hot... you worked so hard... you think, maybe you can just take it easy for those last couple of postures. Don't! Head-to-Knee pose is chuck full of benefits, so give it your all right before hitting the finish line! Head-to-Knee pose mimics the standing version that we do at the beginning of the balancing series earlier in class, but eliminates the challenge of balancing on one leg. That said, it is still just as difficult a posture to master. Your legs should make an exact 90 degree angle, with one foot flexed, extended toward the top corner of your mat, and the other pressed firmly against the inner thigh. With interlocked fingers you reach up and out with the arms, keeping the stomach sucked in, to secure a tight 10-finger interlocked grip around the extended foot a couple of inches below the toes. As in the standing version, you aim to touch your forehead on the knee, or even above it, using the strength of the abdominal contraction. Your spine is nice and rounded as would be the case in Rabbit Pose, elbows pulling straight down toward the calf muscle until they touch the floor (if you're doing it right, it's actually VERY hard to touch the elbows on the floor!). You'll feel an incredible stretch in the Latissimus Dorsi, the hamstrings, and the spine if you're doing this posture correctly, and may even cramp in the abdominal muscles from contracting so hard! This posture is excellent for digestion and immunity, boosting blood flow to the liver, pancreas, thyroid, and intestines. It can also improve arthritic symptoms, and even alleviate allergies by increasing circulation through the lymph nodes. So just when you think you can't do anymore, do a super Head-to-Knee Pose and end your class on a high note!
