Welcome Home Baby Paige!
After a long wait in the NICU over the last several weeks, Eddie and Emily are very excited that Paige Marie Garner is now home! Thanks to everyone who brought meals and sent their love and support for the Garner Family. All are very appreciative!

Greetings!

Hello Summer Yogis! We have missed some of you as you've been on vacation and enjoying the sunshine. But don't forget that summer is a GREAT time to make some strides in your individual yoga practices and it can enhance the relaxation you strive for during the summer months. Your yoga practice is a celebration of YOU: your body, your mind, your spirit, your life, and everything in between. When you go into the hot room you can focus completely on yourself in the mirror instead of the next errand on your to-do list, the list of calls you need to make, or your upcoming meeting at work. Take a "summer vacation" from the world right in the hot room! You really don't have to be on the beach to find your getaway place. Please make sure you continue to hydrate both before and after class as the temperatures and humidity continue to rise outside. And make sure to join us for final FREE outdoor yoga class at Power Plant LIVE! We've had two great events so far--bring a friend and introduce them to the yoga you know and love!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BYB!

Did you know that BYB turned 13 last month?
We celebrated Cockeysville's 13th Birthday on July 22nd! This date also marked the 10th year that Eddie and Emily took over the studio. And Locust Point will turn 3 on August 29th!
We are so proud of our every growing family! Celebrate and spread the love by sharing your favorite yoga with someone new this month!
Tuladandasana (Balancing Stick Pose)
August Posture of the Month!
Most of us don't get to do Balancing Stick on Machu Picchu in Peru (check out Maisha's photo!) but we're still lucky to have it as part of the Bikram Yoga series! Balancing Stick is one of the three core balancing postures in the series, along with Standing Head-to-Knee and Standing Bow Pulling poses. The posture is only 10 seconds long; don't delay or you'll miss out on the great benefits! You begin the posture like Half Moon pose with your arms over your head in the same grip, lifted out of the waist, arms against the ears. Take a big step forward on your mat and get yourself centered with equal weight distribution all over the standing foot. Keeping your arms in line with your ears and your spine perfectly straight, bring your body down until your chest and abdomen are in one line parallel to the floor, and your back leg is exactly in line with the spine. You will look like the letter "T" from the side. The hip of the extended leg should rotate downward so it faces the floor, knee pointing down, and toes stretching toward the back wall behind you. Push your fingers out from the collar bone toward the mirror at the same time to maximize that human tug-of-war feeling! Keep the knee locked and the abdominal muscles engaged for the full 10 seconds--this one is a real calorie-burner if you do it right! Balancing stick is also great for cleaning out the veins and arteries of the heart, getting extra oxygenated blood to the brain, improving concentration and focus, and improving your cardiovascular health.

Maisha McAllister: August Teacher Highlight!

You'll know when Maisha walks into the room - that bubbling personality is hard to miss! Maisha McAllister is our August teacher highlight! Maisha is the newest instructor on the BYB staff, who recently celebrated her one year teaching anniversary this past June! Maisha went to training in Los Angeles in Spring 2014, and walked in with several years of Bikram Yoga behind her already. Before coming to Baltimore, Maisha was practicing yoga and sharing her infectious laugh as a radio personality in Las Vegas. The hot room was always the perfect oasis for her. Now that she has finally fulfilled her teaching dream, Maisha aims to make the hot room everyone's favorite place to be! Her quirky jokes and endless encouragement will guarantee keep you in good spirits every class. Maisha also enjoys teaching yoga outside of the studio to children and other community groups; her beautiful daughter Kira flaunts her backbends every chance she gets! And her husband Joey has also recently come to love and appreciate the benefits of a regular Bikram practice. Visit Maisha's classes at Cockeysville and Locust Point and enjoy every moment in your favorite hot spot! (Just be prepared to get a sweaty, smiling photo with her afterwards:)
