Bikram Yoga is truly the best, anytime, anywhere!
Sanchari Mondal:
September Teacher Highlight!
Our beautiful yogini princess is ready to show off her patriotism! Sanchari is our teacher highlight for September! Sanchari came to Bikram Yoga nearly 5 years ago, and it took only an instant for her to fall in love with the practice. She started on a chilly winter day and came for 150 days straight! It was on that final day that she left for Teacher Training in Los Angeles. Since then, Sanchari has continued to love every minute in the hot room, whether she's on the mat or on the podium! Originally from Calcutta, India, she channels Bikram's wit and widsom in every class she teaches. Sanchari and her husband, Samrat, both truly believe in the healing powers of the practice and have seen it change many lives. When Sanchari is not in the hot room, she is keeping her curious 2 year-old son, Swarno, entertained! You can catch Sanchari at 8am on Sundays at Cockeysville. Her sweet voice but assertive teaching style will leave you smiling through your sweat and enjoying every moment of working your hardest!

"I am really happy that I purchased the Groupon back in the fall, because coming from someone who does not enjoy working out, I really enjoy this class!" --Nicole P.
Kalpalbhati Breathing (Blowing in Firm)
September Posture of the Month!
Kaphalbhati Breathing: otherwise known as Blowing in Firm, or Skull-Polishing Breath. Unlike the Pranayama Breathing exercise at the start of class (which is designed to warm you up), this is the last exercise we do in the Bikram Yoga series; it's designed to cool you down after a tough workout and set you up for a great Savasana. Kaphalbhati Breathing also works by removing any excess toxins in the body that didn't already release during class (and during all your summer vacations!) You sit Japanese style (kneeling, with the insides of your feet touching and tops of the feet on the floor) keeping a nice straight spine. Maintain your posture by placing your palms on your thighs, arms straight and triceps engaged. You'll begin the breathing with forceful exhales for a total of 60 breaths, using the instructor's claps as your guide. Use only the abdominal muscles and avoid moving your shoulders or bouncing up and down each time you breathe; it's hard to do, but you'll find that doing this exercise with correct form gives you great abs! Breathe as if you are blowing out a candle far away from you. After the first 60 breaths, you'll take a quick moment to recollect yourself, and then repeat the exercise doing the breaths twice as quickly. If you get off beat for a moment, it's ok! Just take a moment and join back in with the group. It takes a little while to master this exercise, but it is excellent for abdominal strength, lung elasticity, keeping the digestive system in working order, and improving circulation. After you finish the Kaphalbhati Breathing you have nothing but Savasana left to go, and the satisfaction of knowing you had a great workout!
Testimonials
These yogis are changing their bodies in the best way possible through the power of yoga!

"...this practice is saving me from a spinal fusion surgery."

H. Markel

"One day...at 220 something pounds... [my husband] Joey bent over to tie his shoes. Returning upright, winded and full of discomfort... he decided changes need to be made. 2 days of Bikram yoga a week + exercise + healthy eating for 30 days= -23 pounds. So proud of him."--M. McAllister

"I can't believe I waited so long to begin practicing again! I immediately have felt the benefits in an old nagging hip injury that already has eased up and had great sleep filled nights after class."--Misha
