Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Winter Classes Sponsored by University of Virginia - Posted 12.16

 

Developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, MBSR is the core program of the Mindfulness Center. MBSR classes include instruction in meditation, mindful movement, and other mindfulness practices. These practices remind us to return to the present moment and increase the opportunity to make conscious choices rather than react unconsciously.

 

Classes meet weekly for 2.5 hours over an 8-week period. The course also includes an all-day silent retreat, usually on the Saturday of the 6th week.  You can now register and pay for these MBSR courses online.   Register Online then pay here: Pay Online via UVA EPay

Substance Abuse Recovery Coach Training Opportunity - Posted 12.12

 

Tuesday - Friday,  January 14-17, from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

 

Four day training explores the role and function of recovery coaches in a professional recovery environment, how they differ from mutual aid sponsors and mental health professionals, and details the interpersonal skills and requirements unique to recovery coaches. Participants must attend all four days of the training, no exceptions. The cost for the seminar is $500.00.  Limited number of scholarships. Scholarship attendees are responsible for 40 hrs volunteer service in order to receive a certificate.

LERN Network Adds to Project - Posted 12.23 

 
 
The Lived Experience Research Network promotes leadership and inclusion of those who self-identify as service users and survivors within the field of behavioral health and disabilities research, advanced clinical practice, and program evaluation. LERN supports students, researchers and evaluators, and is inclusive of all persons in academic, governmental, and community-based research/training settings.

LERN additionally runs support groups for current graduate students and post-graduate students, under the same umbrella of the USA Project. You can find more information and join these membership groups at the following link:
