Voices of Victory Project Seeks Stories of Those Who Have Overcome - Posted 12.2 Survivors Pay It Forward (SPIF) - an online advocacy community of individuals who have experienced trauma, including traumatic brain injuries, life-threatening illnesses, and/or other kinds of trauma and hardship - is seeking stories for its Voices of Victory project: "We are looking for survivors who have survived multiple traumas, disease, brain injury, natural disasters, war and tragedy and/or hardship who pay it forward in the community. Share your secrets to success, how you found courage and discovered wisdom. What single situation changed your life? Who or what situation inspired you beyond the pain to be kind? If You Have Ever Been Suicidal, Your Input is Sought - Posted 12.2 AttemptSurvivors.com reports the following: renowned mental health lawyer Susan Stefan is "writing a book about laws and policies around the world related to people who are suicidal, and she wants to hear your experiences. What works? What doesn't? What makes things worse? You can help her by taking this short, anonymous survey. And if you're willing to do an in-depth interview . . . please contact Susan at stefansusan@gmail.com. If the survey link has any hiccups, please let her, or us, know." At the same time, AttemptSurvivors.com wants to know how you have helped to shift the conversation about suicide in your community in 2013! The VOCAL Governance Committee will soon be meeting to discuss future directions and area of focus. This special ad hoc committee works to ensure the efficient and effective work of the Board, including reviewing VOCAL bylaws and other policy documents, evaluating Board and committee structure and governing process, and recommending appropriate changes. I invite and encourage the suggestions and the participation of VOCAL members on the committee, which will be meeting by teleconference on a regular basis. Free Webinar: Service Animals under the Fair Housing Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act - Posted 11.21
Did you know that not every law uses the same definition of "service animal"? On December 10, tune in to a webinar on housing and service animals, and learn how the Fair Housing Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) differ in their definitions of service animals and the protections these laws offer for people with disabilities who use service animals.
The webinar will also cover when service animal handlers need documentation and what kind, the difference between "service animal" and "emotional support animal", and the rights and responsibilities of service animal handlers, housing managers, and business owners.
