DBHDS Revising Human Rights Regulations

The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) plans to revise their human rights regulations.  They will take public comment on the proposed revision of 12VAC35-115-10,
et seq., through TODAY, February 18.  Comments should be addressed to Margaret Walsh at DBHDS

Recovery in Motion (RIM) in Fredericksburg

 

The RIM program has been conducting several WRAP workshop series annually for the last 2.5 years, and during Mental Health month, puts on a candlelight vigil program and a luncheon for officers trained in CIT.  RIM provides monthly newsletters to their WRAP graduates (now numbering over 100) to continue to provide information, sense of community, and WRAP reminders.

 

RIM sponsors a variety of activity groups in surrounding counties including a knitting group at a library, a crafts group at a volunteer's home in Spotsylvania and the offer of a weekend mall walking group.

WRAP'n Recovery Group in Henrico County

 

Are you looking for education on how to maintain wellness and to stay in recovery?  Do you desire to meet with others, of like mind, for discussion and group learning?

 

A community WRAP group is meeting in Henrico County on Saturday mornings from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.  This group is facilitated by three Copeland Center-trained individuals, who have a vision of providing WRAP in the larger Richmond community.  This group will be 'revolving'; meaning that it will continue through the WRAP curriculum for approximately eight weeks, then start over again.  You are welcome to join at any point.

 

Although not sponsored by Henrico Mental Health, the meetings will take place at the Lakeside Center, 5623 Lakeside Avenue, Henrico (23228).

New Consumer Run Support Group for Forensic Issues

 

A Virginia consumer who experienced the gradual release process has opened this support group for other consumer's in Virginia who have forensic issues. We still need support while in the community, or we can find support in groups or on-line. 100% peer-established and peer-operated

Four More Mental Health Conferences to Be Held This Spring

  

Four mental health-related conferences will take place between March and June. 

 

The 2013 "Tools for Change Conference", presented by the Center for Dignity, Recovery and Stigma Elimination, is "the inaugural multidisciplinary training conference on effective tools, methods, and practices for the reduction of discrimination and stigma associated with mental health and mental illness." The conference promises to bring together "community-based programs, consumers, county and state agencies, and experts throughout California and the nation to provide community change agents with the knowledge, skills and tools of the CalMHSA Stigma Discrimination Reduction initiative in order to maximize their impact and effectiveness." The conference will take place March 21-11, 2013, at the Westin San Francisco Airport Hotel.

 

Mental Health America's 2013 conference will take place June 5-8, 2013, at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Md.   

 

The 2013 Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance conference will take place June 14-18, 2013, (including pre- and post-conference meetings and institutes) at the Hilton Miami Downtown in Miami, Fla. Details about each of the conferences are available at the sources below.

Call for Workshop Proposals for "Carrying the Torch", VOCAL's Statewide MH Conference

 

VOCAL seeks workshop proposals from members and friends! Workshops are 1.5 hours in length. Proposals are due no later than April 15th - please provide a title, description, names of presenters, and any other information that may be useful for our understanding of your proposed presentation.
You will be notified after the due date
whether or not the proposal is accepted.

In order to have the most recent, accurate information that we can, we are asking that you complete the WRAP Facilitator Questionnaire. Mental Health Consumer/Survivor Stigma Experts Wanted for National Online Research Project

 

The Center for Dignity, Recovery and Stigma Elimination is looking for mental health consumers who have led or coordinated a consumer-run stigma change program OR who have experience delivering in-person presentations that challenge mental illness stigma, to participate in an online survey about stigma-reduction programs.

Survey participants will be asked review an evaluation instrument called the California Quality Improvement - Fidelity, Assessment& Implementation Ratings (CQI-FAIR) for its potential impact on public stigma, self-stigma and label-avoidance. Participants also will complete questionnaires about social attitudes regarding mental health.

· Survey takes about 20 minutes
· All responses are confidential
