From Will Gallik, VOCAL's Interim Executive Director
**************************************************
Happy Fall, VOCAL Members!
Fall is a transitional time in Mother Nature's cycle of life...and this bodes similarly for VOCAL. Unlike Mother Nature, however, VOCAL has been in transition for the better part of the year. This transition has brought about questions from the membership about various topics, such as when trainings will occur and when VOCAL will be up to full staffing. During the past few months, we have worked to keep the membership abreast of goings on through updates in the email digest and the newsletter. One of the fundamental principles guiding me through this time of recovery is personal responsibility. This manifests in many ways: taking responsibility for my actions, creating a personal recovery plan, and being held accountable for my behaviors.
This is also true of organizations. VOCAL is working to be a positive role model by becoming more transparent in all that it does. A significant change has been VOCAL's eagerness to develop an organizational WRAP. This, along with updates in the digest and newsletter, indicates a willingness of VOCAL to move forward in a positive direction with behaviors conducive to modeling recovery.
In addition, to add robustness, we are starting a new feature to enhance communication: the "Ask Will" Column. In this column, members can ask questions of VOCAL's Executive Office. The intent is to answer each and every inquiry posed in a timely fashion. Inquiries can be sent to askwill@vocalvirginia.org. Please include your name and contact information for verification: anonymous submissions will not be accepted. Responses will be published in the VOCAL Network News newsletter which is currently published six times per year. An archive of responses will be made available through VOCAL's website: www.vocalvirginia.org
