- stock up your herbal medicine cabinet
- make a kit specific to you with herbal formulas that kill bacteria and viruses. **See below**
- have Dr. Marco look at the stage of illness, your specific Herb Type, and what your symptoms are, to pick the proper Chinese Herbal Formulas for you.
- have an Herbal Consultation OR just pop in for herbs.
- Be sure to have your herbs handy to blast the bacteria or viruses, to take daily for prevention, or if you have been around someone sick.
Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs are much healthier for you than taking antibiotics or getting the flu shot. Specific Chinese Herbal Formulas kill bacteria and denature viruses, leave the digestive flora intact, and have no side effects.
Doctors of Chinese Medicine have fine-tuned these formulas over hundreds of years. Chinese Herbal Formulas usually consist of 8 to 16 herbs that act like a committee to get the job done: The first few herbs do the main job. The herbs below that help to support those herbs. Then there are important herbs that help with digestion and to help balance the chief herbs. Lastly, there is an herb that helps to harmonize so that all the herbs work well together.
The most important formula for your cold & flu kit:
Ilex -- take 2 per day throughout the cold and flu season or when you're around anyone sick or going on an airplane.
Ilex zaps bacteria and viruses so that your immune system doesn't have to do all the work. Ilex is better than Echinacea as Echinacea increases White Blood Cell production while Ilex does not. Because Ilex does the work, you will have MORE energy.

What else
can I do to prevent the flu?
- Wash your hands frequently. We sell a superb natural antibacterial spray for your hands for when water is not available or for an extra immune boost: Immune Support Essential Oil Spray, which can be sprayed on your hands, doorknobs and other surfaces. Anti-bacterial gels are petroleum which is like putting gasoline on your hands -- not good.
- When possible, wash your hands before touching your face, eyes, nose, or mouth. These are the areas that bacteria, viruses, and microbes can enter your body.
- Cough and sneeze into a tissue.
- Wash any shared surfaces (like phones, keyboards, kitchen counters) frequently.
- Stay warm. Dress in warm clothes and layers during these chillier months. In Chinese Medicine, colds are called External Pernicious Influences (EPIs), and when they invade they cause colds and flus. The areas that are easiest for EPIs to invade are the back of the neck, the lower back, and the shins. So be sure to wear your scarf, a warm coat, and knee socks on those chilly days. Putting a warmed-up flax or rice bag on these areas sure feels good, too.
- Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
Take a hot sauna or hot bath to induces a mini-fever to kill and denature unwanted bacteria and viruses. Boil slices of ginger and pour the ginger, water and all into your bath. Combine with bath salts and your bath feels incredible.- Aerobic exercise to increase oxygen and blood flow in the body, thereby increasing your body's natural virus-killer cells.
- A well-nourished immune system is better able to fight off infections. Fuel your body with dark green, red, and yellow vegetables or fruits. Here at SNHC we stock, recommend, and prescribe high-quality organic vitamins and greens powders.
- Omega-3 Fatty Acids fight inflammation -- here at SNHC we have the highest quality fish oil from the cleanest Scandinavian waters. Pharmax is the only company that does a process to get the "fishy gunk" out of their fish oil so that there is no burping and you get a pure Omega-3.
- Here at SNHC we carry high quality probiotics to help your digestion be healthy to outnumber the opportune bacteria with the good bacteria.
- Don't smoke. Quit smoking. Avoid smokers. Smoking kills cilia that help the lungs and nasal passages clear bacteria, viruses, and phlegm. You can quit smoking with ear Acupuncture right here at SNHC.
"Relax -- If you can teach yourself to relax, you can activate your immune system on demand. There's evidence that when you put your relaxation skills into action, your interleukins -- leaders in the immune system response against cold and flu viruses -- increase in the bloodstream. Train yourself to picture an image you find pleasant or calming. Do this 30 minutes a day for several months." Acupuncture and Massage treatments are excellent ways to bring you into a deeply relaxed state and healing nap. -- information from WebMD by Jonathan L Gelfand, MD on February 21, 2010.

Herb Tip #1: To preserve your Chinese Herbal tablets: leave the cotton in your bottles or add a few cotton balls back in to absorb any moisture.
Herb Tip #2: Other ways to take Herbal Tablets:
a) Dissolve them in a little teacup of hot water with some honey or sugar to taste.
b) Grind them up and put in a shot glass or juice glass. You can add a little hot water and then grape juice or just grape juice and stir briskly.
c) Grind them up and mix with a little applesauce or yogurt, followed by applesauce or yogurt that does not have herbs.
d) Grind them up and put them in a part of your smoothie.
