Located in the Sierra Nevada National Park, near the Caribbean coastal city of Santa Marta, this hidden archaelogical site is the home of an ancient city, believed to have been founded more than a thousand years ago. Winding through dense jungle, over 1,000 stone steps form a series of 169 terraces that were carved into the mountainside. Ancient tiled roads and several circular plazas make up the rest of the site, which is best
accessed on foot. Covering 44 km, this hike is only for the physically fit adventurer, but it is well worth the effort.
