Dear Friends,
With the first days of spring weather making me think of the renewal and growth, I have also been reflecting on my first year at VBCF and want to share some highlights:
VBCF is lucky to have good, passionate, dedicated people supporting our mission - from our volunteers to our staff to our donors, we couldn't ask for a better group of individuals. But we're always looking to add to the crowd. If you'd like to get involved - click here.
Progress is slow but steady. Breast cancer won't be eradicated overnight, but progress is being made in this field every day. And VBCF works to provide you with updates through our Recent News & Research Highlights below.
Education matters. VBCF is dedicated to educating Virginians on the facts about breast cancer. Our newest initiative - Breast Health Education Mini-Grants for VA Nonprofits - has just been released.
Advocacy makes a difference. In 2012, Virginia became the third state in the nation to pass a breast density notification law. Learn more about why density matters here. And consider joining us for National Lobby Day in D.C. to make a difference.
VBCF couldn't exist without our generous donors. There are so many ways to offer your support so we can continue our meaningful work - attend one of our events, get a pink ribbon license plate from DMV, shop on Amazon through our link in this email or on our website, donate a vehicle you no longer use, and/or make a gift in honor or memory of a loved one.
Thank you for allowing me this leadership opportunity. I look forward to a world without breast cancer, but until then, with your support, VBCF will be here to serve Virginians.
Wishing you good health,
Katy Sawyer Executive Director |

National Lobby Day | | Let your voice be heard! Join Us in Washington DC!
Each year, VBCF provides training and transportation to activists across the state to attend National Lobby Day, hosted by the National Breast Cancer Coalition. National Lobby Day will take place on Tuesday, May 7, 2013. Breast Cancer Advocates from around the country will travel to Washington DC to speak with their legislators about public policy regarding breast cancer. The legislative priorities are set annually and typically focus on increased funding for breast cancer research; access to high quality health care and clinical trials; and expanding the influence of breast cancer advocates in all aspects of the breast cancer policy decision-making process.
