Dear Friends,

Thank you to the many volunteers and contributors who have made July such a success! Below you will read more about Becky's Place at the Remote Area Medical (RAM) program in Wise County and the 26th annual Women's Memorial Golf Tournament. VBCF appreciates all of the generosity which enables us to educate and advocate for Virginians with the goal of ending breast cancer.

During these challenging economic times, VBCF continues to offer free educational resources across the state to encourage early detection and support newly diagnosed, active patients, and breast cancer survivors. VBCF recently approved mini-grants to seven public library systems, representing 24 branches and will award additional grants in December. We're also working to improve breast cancer related public policies such as supporting this year's breast density notification bill in our General Assembly. Virginia is one of only four states to have passed such a notification law (along with CT, NY, and TX). In order to continue our work, support from those who care about our cause is critical.

Join our efforts! Nominate someone for our Kohlenberg or Dopp Awards, participate in The 2012 Amazing Raise, volunteer at one of the many upcoming community education events, and/or attend the November Survivorship Conference. Get involved and show your VBCF support, helping us put an end to breast cancer!

Wishing you and yours good health,

Becky's Place at RAM

Since 2008, Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation (VBCF) has been hosting "Becky's Place" at Remote Area Medical in Wise, VA, which provides cancer educational classes to patients while they wait for services. Becky's Place is named for Becky Morris, a former VBCF board member and president, who lost her battle in 2010. Women's Cancer Action Network started this educational initiative 12 years ago, but when it disbanded, VBCF stepped in to continue this vital function. We partner with similar organizations to offer awareness, education, and information on a variety of medical issues.

This year our classes included breast cancer, ovarian cancer, cervical cancer, male cancers, diabetes and smoking cessation. Our volunteer team represented the entire state. We taught 21 classes and reached over 600 individuals.  We also donate school supplies to the local school systems for distribution and host a children's tent.

A big thank you to all of our volunteers & supporters who make Becky's Place possible!  VBCF could not do this without you.
