Fort Bend ISD resumes construction of Elem. 49
  
During a Board Workshop and Called Meeting on Monday, September 12, the Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees approved restating and amending a construction contract with Drymalla Construction Company for Elementary School 49 on the west side of the District.
Volunteers needed for Academic Advisory Council

Fort Bend ISD is seeking business and community members, and parents of students enrolled in FBISD schools to volunteer to serve on its Academic Advisory Council (AAC) for the 2016-17 school year. The Council works with the FBISD Board of Trustees or designee in establishing and reviewing the District's educational goals, objectives and district-wide classroom instructional programs.

Grab your friends and neighbors and plan to attend the Fort Bend Education Foundation's 2nd Annual Sugar Shindig on Friday, October 21, at 6:30 p.m., at Safari Texas. The adults-only event will include a fajita dinner, a cake auction and dancing to the music of Password. Tickets are $25 each and are on sale now through October 18.

Fort Bend ISD gives Foshan #2 High School students a Texas-sized welcome
    
 

Fort Bend ISD continues its partnership with China's Foshan #2 High School, formed in 2012, and welcomes a 25-member delegation for the educational exchange program this year. Sponsored by the Fort Bend County Global Initiative in conjunction with Fort Bend ISD, the program gives our global scholars an opportunity to explore our educational system and take part in extra-curricular activities, develop their English language skills, tour cultural landmarks, experience living with host families, while gaining an appreciation of American culture.
Amid financial uncertainty, FBISD maintains tax rate for seventh consecutive year
    
During its Regular Business Meeting Monday, September 19, the FBISD Board of Trustees adopted a tax rate of $1.34 per $100 valuation, with $1.04 to be used for maintenance and operations and $0.30 to be used for payment of bonds. The adoption of the 2016-17 tax rate marks the seventh consecutive year that the District has maintained the overall tax rate of $1.34, and comes as the District faces some financial uncertainties due to the state's public school funding formula.
FBISD Board of Trustees Listening Tour
    

Fort Bend ISD's Board of Trustees is coming to a school near you in order to hear from parents, community members and other stakeholders during its first-ever "Listening Tour." Board members will hold four of their monthly board workshops at FBISD campuses during the 2016-17 school year, beginning at Marshall High School on Monday, October 10, 2016.

Fort Bend ISD is excited to introduce In the Zone!, a new digital newsletter created to keep parents and community members informed about news and events within its 11 high school feeder patterns. Each month, In the Zone! will feature stories from every school within a high school's attendance area - creating unity among students and families from the elementary to high school level. The newsletters will also include an article that will provide families with information, tools, and tips to help their child succeed.

FBISD hosts Small Business Opportunities Workshop
 
Contractors, sub-contractors and other interested businesses are invited to FBISD's monthly Small Business Opportunities workshop, scheduled for Wednesday, September 28. Participants will learn more about projects included in Phase 2 of the 2014 Bond Program, which will go out for bid during October and November. Attendees will also learn more about the Small Business Enterprise Program, which was adopted by the Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees.
