 It's official, the new school year begins in less than two weeks! Even as a I write this, hundreds of new teachers are beginning their first day of work in FBISD. They are spending the week in New Teacher Orientation, preparing to join our outstanding team of educators dedicated to serving your children in an exemplary manner.

Fort Bend ISD to explore possibility of becoming
"District of Innovation"
Members of the Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees learned more about the process of becoming a District of Innovation during a Special Meeting held August 8, 2016. The District of Innovation concept, passed by the 84th Texas Legislature, allows public school districts to access most flexibilities that are available to Texas' open enrollment charter schools.

Upcoming Board of Trustees Meetings
Upcoming FBISD Board of Trustees meetings for the remainder of August and September will be held on the following dates:
- Aug. 15 - Regular Board Meeting, 6:00 p.m.
- Sept. 12 - Called Meeting for Public Hearing, 5:30 p.m. / Called Meeting and Agenda Review, 6:00 p.m.
- Sept. 19 - Regular Board Meeting, 6:00 p.m.

Fort Bend Education Foundation partners with Republic Harley-Davidson for school supply drive
 The Fort Bend Education Foundation is partnering with Republic Harley-Davidson (RHD) for a Back to School supply drive. Now through August 20, individuals may donate school supplies and be entered into a drawing to win a $100 RHD gift card. Also, for every Harley-Davidson sold, RDH will donate $100 of each sale to the Fort Bend Education Foundation. Visit the FBEF website for more information.

Campuses invite Families to make Prepayments on Student Meal Accounts, Aug. 15, 16 and 19
 School cafeteria managers will be available to accept prepayments on student meal accounts on August 15, 16 and 19, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at all FBISD campuses.

2016 Fall Open House Dates
The Fall 2016 Open House dates are as follows:
- High School - August 29 (Austin, Kempner, Marshall, Ridge Point, Willowridge), August 31 (Bush, Clements, Dulles, Elkins, Hightower, Travis, Progressive)
- Middle School - September 8
- Elementary School - September 14 and 15

Tammy Patterson receives Distinguished Choral Award
 Fort Bend ISD Assistant Director of Fine Arts, Tammy Patterson, is the recipient of the 2016 Choral Excellence Award, presented by the Texas Choral Directors Association (TCDA).

FBISD students on Discovery Center Kids' Committee
 Fort Bend ISD is pleased to announce that 11 students, representing six District campuses, have been selected to serve on the Fort Bend Children's Discovery Center (FBCDC) Kids' Committee for 2016-17.
