FBISD presents proposed $593 million 2016-17 budget
Fort Bend ISD Chief Financial Officer Steven Bassett presented a budget overview during a public hearing held Monday, June 6. The $592,626,411 proposed general operation budget for 2016-17 is based on projected enrollment of 74,111 students, which is an increase of 1,033 students from the 2015-16 school year.

FBISD unveils Educational Technology Master Plan
At the June 6 Called Board meeting, an update for the Educational Technology Master Plan was shared with the Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees and District leaders. The plan's primary purpose is to serve as a framework and set of strategies to establish the classroom technology standard across the District over the next five years.

Fort Bend ISD partners with The City of Missouri City in its bid for the 2016 All-America City Award
The National Civic League has announced Missouri City as a finalist for the 2016 All-America City Award, which recognizes those that engage residents in innovative, inclusive and effective efforts to tackle critical challenges. In the City's application, partners from Fort Bend ISD, AccessHealth, Fort Bend County Precinct 2, First Tee, Missouri City Green, the Mayor's Youth Commission, Men for Change, regional businesses and developers, civic organizations and homeowners' associations, were highlighted for the many innovative and community oriented programs they have founded, grown and flourished to make Missouri City worthy of All-American City status.

Tran named FBISD Director of Multilingual Services
The FBISD Board of Trustees named Angela Tran as Director of Multilingual Services. In her new role, Tran will oversee the Program for English Language Learners that includes all English as a Second Language, Bilingual and Title III services.

Board of Trustees appoint principals at seven campuses
During their June 6, 2016 Called Meeting, the FBISD Board of Trustees appointed seven elementary and middle school principals to serve during the 2016-17 school year. Appointed were: Ashley Causey, Principal at Hodges Bend Middle School; Tonya Curtis, Principal at Crockett Middle School; Keith Fickel, Principal at Sugar Land Middle School; Sarah Laberge, Principal at First Colony Middle School; Erika Edmond, Principal at Townewest Elementary School; Deanna Olson, Principal of the EDGE Program at Briargate Elementary School; and Rachel Rosier, Principal at Settlers Way Elementary School.

The June and July 2016 FBISD Board of Trustees meetings will be held on the following dates:
- June 20 - Regular Board Meeting, 6:00 p.m.
- July 18 - Regular Board Meeting, 6:00 p.m.

Progressive principal to participate in Harvard Institute
Dr. Cory Collins, principal at Progressive High School, is among 95 principals from 61 school districts and four charter school organizations to participate in a summer leadership program, sponsored by Raise Your Hand Texas.

2016 College-Sponsored Merit Scholarship Winners
Seven graduating Fort Bend ISD seniors are among 3,000 winners of 2016 College-Sponsored Merit Scholarships. U.S. college and university officials selected the winners from among the Finalists in the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program who plan to attend their institution.

FBISD students earn 2016 UIL One-Act Play and Theatrical Design awards
Fort Bend ISD theatre departments and students were named winners in recent competitions, demonstrating students' talents and skills in theatrical performance and design.

FBISD's 2016 Summer Work-Week Schedule
Fort Bend ISD is operating on a four-day, Monday-Thursday schedule for the summer of 2016. Work hours during this period are 7:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. This schedule will be in operation through the week of August 1, with August 5 being the last Friday we are closed. FBISD will resume regular work hours (Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) on Monday, August 8.
