Fort Bend ISD School Board May 7 Election Results
The Fort Bend ISD School Board Trustee election took place on Saturday, May 7, 2016. According to unofficial results, incumbents Jim Rice and Dave Rosenthal will retain their positions on the FBISD Board of Trustees for another three-year term. A complete story regarding the election, as well as the selection of new Board officers, will be released after the Monday, May 16, FBISD Board meeting after the votes are officially canvassed.

- Called Meeting, 5:30 p.m.
- Regular Board Meeting, 6:00 p.m.

New Stop Time for the 2016-17 School Year Adds 15 Minutes to End of School Day for all Students
After further review and consideration, Fort Bend ISD will add 15 minutes to the end of the instructional school day for the 2016-17 school year for all grade levels. Initially, the District planned to increase the school day by 20 minutes, with instruction beginning five minutes earlier and ending fifteen minutes later at the elementary and middle school levels, and adding 20 minutes to the end of the day at the high school level.

FBISD Students to benefit from expanded tuition-free college courses
Beginning in the fall of 2016, all Fort Bend ISD high school students in the Dual Credit program will have the opportunity to enroll in tuition-free courses through Houston Community College. Students who pass the classes earn college-level credit - a big savings for them in the future.

Twelve Fort Bend ISD high school students among 2016 National Merit $2,500 scholarship winners
Fort Bend ISD is proud to announce that 12 of the District's graduating seniors are among the 2016 National Merit $2,500 Scholarship winners, chosen from a talent pool of more than 15,000 outstanding finalists. These scholars represent the Finalists in each state who were judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills and potential for success in rigorous college studies.

Men for Change honored 15 Fort Bend ISD graduating seniors with scholarships totaling $18,000 during the organization's 2016 Scholarship Awards Banquet held at City Centre at Quail Valley.

Quail Valley Middle School GT Academy students win at National MathCounts competition
Congratulations to Quail Valley Middle School GT Academy students, Ben Wright and Andrew Cai, on being part of the winning Texas team at the 2016 Raytheon MathCounts National Competition, held May 7-10 in Washington, D.C. Wright (8th grade) and Cai (6th grade) helped form a four-member team that won first place in the Team division of the national competition. All four team members placed in the Countdown Round - a first in the history of the competition! Mrs. Isil Nal is the team coach.
