Fort Bend ISD names Cleveland Mouton as the 2016 FBISD Elementary Teacher of the Year and Richard Embrick as the 2016 FBISD Secondary Teacher of the Year

Fort Bend ISD announced the names of the District's 2016 Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year at its annual Teacher of the Year Awards dinner and program, held April 19 at Safari Texas Ranch. Cleveland Mouton of Quail Valley Elementary School is the 2016 FBISD Elementary Teacher of the Year; and Richard Embrick of Crockett Middle School is the 2016 FBISD Secondary Teacher of the Year.

Closing school: How do we make the call?

Each year we face major weather events that require us to ask: Do we close school or not? The decision is rarely easy because weather patterns are unpredictable and because there are consequences for closing school. When we closed school this week, we had already used both holidays that were planned as bad weather make-up days.

Upcoming Board of Trustees Meetings
Upcoming FBISD Board of Trustees meetings will be held on the following dates:
  • April 25 - Regular Board Meeting, 6:00 p.m. (rescheduled from April 18)
  • May 9 - Called Meeting and Agenda Review Workshop, 6:00 p.m.
  • May 16 - Regular Board Meeting, 6:00 p.m.

Willowridge WOH presents showing of award-winning film
The Willowridge High School Wall of Honor, Inc. will host a screening of Darius Clark Monroe's documentary, Evolution of a Criminal, and the public is invited to attend. The event will take place on Friday, April 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the school's auditorium.
Two FBISD Destination Imagination Teams advance to Global Competition, May 25-28
Fort Bend ISD congratulates the Destination Imagination teams that have advanced to the 2016 Global Finals, which will be held May 25-28 in Knoxville, Tennessee. The FBISD teams will join more than 1,400 teams representing 48 U.S. states and 15 countries in competing at the Global Finals to showcase their Challenge solutions.
Fort Bend ISD students named finalists in nationwide "TeenDrive365" video challenge
As Kempner High School junior Blake Takushi searched for scholarships online, he came across an opportunity that caught his attention: by creating a video that demonstrates the importance of teen driving safety, finalists would be eligible for thousands of dollars in prize money and a chance to have their video aired on Discovery networks.
Spellebrity Video Contest finalists need your vote
Two Colony Meadows Elementary School fifth-grade students are among 10 semifinalists in the 2016 Spellebrity Video Contest.

Hightower High School male students gain life lessons
Twenty-two male students from Hightower High School attended the Young Men's Leadership Conference to gain advice for life after high school. The Fluor Corporation hosted the event, inviting business leaders to speak to youth with a focus on succeeding in life.
