Fort Bend ISD: Who we are
A message to the community from FBISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Charles Dupre

As you may know, remarks made in an FCMS classroom late last week have resulted in the campus and Fort Bend ISD being the subject of media attention and many discussions in our community - and beyond.

As superintendent of Fort Bend ISD, I take personal responsibility for the way we serve our nearly 74,000 students and their families. I also feel responsible for the support and leadership we provide to our more than 10,000 staff members.
FBISD Student Holiday, Friday, April 15
All Fort Bend ISD students will enjoy a Student Holiday on Friday, April 15 while school and District employees take part in a Staff Development Day. All students are expected to return to classes on Monday, April 18 following their three-day weekend.
Prekindergarten Online Registration for 2016-17 to be held April 25 - May 11
Fort Bend ISD will soon begin the prekindergarten registration process for the upcoming 2016-17 school year. The two-step registration process will begin April 25 - May 11, 2016. During this window, parents of four year old children who are eligible for prekindergarten can begin the first step in the enrollment process using the new student online registration system. After completing the online registration application, parents must then contact the Fort Bend ISD Early Childhood office to set up an appointment to complete the application process at a centralized registration event on May 13, 19, or 20.
Parents invited to Care to Chat speaker series, April 22
Fort Bend ISD, in conjunction with Memorial Hermann Sugar Land and The Fort Bend Family YMCA, presents its final Care to Chat speaker series of the year, "Summer Safety Tips for Children" on Friday, April 22. The free event will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at The Fort Bend Family YMCA (4433 Cartwright Rd., Missouri City 77459).

April Board of Trustees Meetings
The April 2016 FBISD Board of Trustees meetings will be held on the following dates:
  • April 11 - Called Meeting and Agenda Review Workshop, 6:00 p.m.
  • April 18 - Regular Board Meeting, 6:00 p.m.

Election Reminder: Early Voting for the May 7 FBISD Trustee Election begins April 25
As a reminder, early voting for the May 7, 2016 Trustee Election begins on Monday, April 25. All voters in Fort Bend ISD may vote for both positions on the May 7 Fort Bend ISD Trustee ballot. The two positions that will be on the ballot are:
 
  • Position 3, candidate must reside within the west side of the District
  • Position 7, candidate must reside within the east side of the District

Fort Bend ISD theatre students and orchestras nominated for 2016 Tommy Tune Awards
Fort Bend ISD has received five nominations for 2016 Tommy Tune Awards. Presented by Theatre Under the Stars, the awards recognize excellence in the production of musical theatre by high school students and their teachers.

Annual JROTC Pass-In-Review to be held April 20
Fort Bend ISD's Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) will host its 18th Annual Pass-In-Review on Wednesday, April 20 at 7:00 p.m. at Mercer Stadium (16403 Lexington Blvd., Sugar Land, 77479). The Pass-In-Review is a long-standing tradition within the military.

FBISD students invited to submit creative projects for 2016 Mock Election Contest
Fort Bend ISD students are invited to showcase their creative talents by entering the 2016 FBISD Mock Election Contest. All students in grades K-12 can participate by submitting a poster or video incorporating this year's theme: The Power of One. The contest is open April 6 - May 16. Winners will be selected at the elementary, middle and high school level for each category: poster and video. Contest winners will be announced in late May. Click here for contest rules.
Mu Kappa Omega HBCU College Application Day welcomes nearly 450 participants
Nearly 450 Fort Bend ISD high school seniors and juniors attended the recent Mu Kappa Omega HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) College Application Day to learn more about the admissions process and complete online applications for the college/university of their choice. Recruiters from nearly 50 HBCUs were present to help prepare the students for their postsecondary careers. 
Global Studies Academy students to host Annual Global Issues Summit, April 16
FBISD Global Studies Academy students from Clements and Travis High Schools will host the 2016 Global Issues Summit (GIS) "Turning Awareness into Action" on Saturday, April 16. The event helps spread awareness about global issues to students throughout the community and gives participants an opportunity to receive information and provide feedback regarding global issues.
Travis theatre students present August: Osage County
Travis High School Theatrical Company is presenting its student-directed play, August: Osage County, free to the public this weekend.  Performances will be held on April 7, 8 and 9 at 7:00 p.m., as well as a matinee show at 2:00 p.m. on April 9.
