Fort Bend ISD students, accompanied by District leaders, immerse themselves in Chinese culture
Participants gain rewarding experiences through the Fort Bend County Global Initiative
 
When two countries unite for the benefit of our youth, the results of the global partnership are beyond amazing - just ask the seven Fort Bend ISD students who recently experienced a cultural exchange with their peers from China's Foshan #2 High School. The students traveled to China last month as part of the Fort Bend County Global Initiative Program.

The month of February is here - and it is promising to be a busy one in Fort Bend ISD, as our Board members and administration continue to plan for the upcoming 2016-17 school year. Later this month, our Board will hear updates on the budgeting process, including the plans to staff our new elementary.
 
Congratulations FBISD 2016 Teacher of the Year Finalists!
Fort Bend ISD is proud to announce the names of the District's 2016 Teacher of the Year (TOY) Finalists. Ten finalists have been selected by the FBISD Elementary and Secondary Teacher of the Year Judging Committees, which met and reviewed all campus entries. Since all of our campus TOYs truly represent the best in teaching, it is always difficult for the judges to narrow it down to our finalists. 
FBISD Board names assistant principals at two schools
Fort Bend ISD's Board of Trustees recently approved two new assistant principals at the secondary school level. They are Dr. TaTanisha Parker, assistant principal at Hightower High School; and Marc Muscarello, assistant principal at Baines Middle School.
Save the Date - Fort Bend ISD will host its annual All Star Talent Draft Job Fair on April 2 at Constellation Field. More details will be coming soon.

Plan your exciting future Feb. 13 at Career & Education Day at the George R. Brown Convention Center
Students in grades 6-12 (as well as their families, teachers and school counselors) are invited to attend the 30th annual Career & Education Day, hosted by the Houston Hispanic Forum. The event takes place on Saturday, February 13 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the George R. Brown Convention Center (1001 Avenida De Las Americas, Houston, 77010).

Bush High School graduate competes on American Idol
Bush High School graduate, Zach Person (Class of 2015), is making quite a name for himself in the music industry. The 19-year-old recently competed on the farewell season of American Idol, making it to Hollywood. He impressed all three judges during auditions with his performance of Next Door Neighbor Blues.
Sugar Mill Elementary student wins poster contest
Sugar Mill Elementary School is celebrating the success of third-grader Sidharth Duttala, who was named a winner in the 2015 National Association for Pupil Transportation's National School Bus Safety Week Poster Contest.
Early Release and Student Holiday, Feb. 12 and 15
All Fort Bend ISD schools will dismiss early on Friday, February 12 - a day designated for Parent Conference Elementary/Early Dismissal Secondary. All schools will begin at their regular times (Elementary - 8:10 a.m., Middle - 8:55 a.m., and High School - 7:30 a.m.), with early release times as follows:
  • Elementary School - 12:10 p.m.
  • Middle School - 12:55 p.m.
  • High School - 11:45 a.m.
Monday, February 12 is a student holiday. All students will be out of school that day for President's Day and will return to class on Tuesday, February 16.
