All Fort Bend ISD schools and offices will be closed on Monday, January 18 for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday. The District will resume regular business hours and students will return to class on Tuesday, January 19.

Throughout January, Fort Bend ISD will join school districts across the state in honoring its elected Board of Trustees for their continuous support, dedication and commitment to our students, staff, and community. FBISD's seven-member Board of Trustees includes: Grayle James (President), Dave Rosenthal (Vice President), Kristin Tassin (Secretary) and members Jason Burdine, KP George, Addie Heyliger and Jim Rice.

Monday, January 11 marked the first Board of Trustees meeting of 2016, and our members of the Board of Trustees are already faced with a decision that will affect every single student and family in Fort Bend ISD - the 2016-17 District calendar. During Monday's board workshop, the District administration presented its calendar recommendation after reviewing approximately 700 Let's Talk submissions.

FBISD to host TAPR Public Meeting, Feb. 8
Fort Bend ISD will host a public meeting to share the Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR) with the Board of Trustees on February 8, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. in the Board Room of the FBISD Administration Building (16431 Lexington Blvd., Sugar Land 77479).

Information Technology Community Meetings, Jan. 26, 27
Fort Bend ISD invites parents and community members to one of two informational meetings regarding the development of the District's Strategic Educational Technology Plan, which will address future technology needs of FBISD students and teachers. The meetings will be held from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 26, and Wednesday, January 27 in the main auditorium at the Administrative Annex (3119 Sweetwater Blvd., Sugar Land, 77479).

FBISD actively soliciting small business participation for Construction and Renovation Services Projects
The Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees approved a Small Business Enterprise Program for construction services projects in the amount of $50,000 or greater. In conjunction with the District's $484 million 2014 Bond Program construction and renovation projects, the District's Business Opportunity Services Team will hold a kick-off meeting on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the FBISD Purchasing and Facilities Management Offices.

The Fort Bend Education Foundation presents its 23rd Annual Gala, Bollywood Nights

District Science Fair Awards Receptions, Feb. 4 and 24
To honor winners of the District Science Fair, Fort Bend ISD will host two awards receptions in February: one for secondary students on February 4 and one for elementary students on February 24.

Parents invited to attend Care to Chat series, Feb. 5
Fort Bend ISD, in partnership with Memorial Hermann Sugar Land and the Fort Bend Family YMCA, will host a Care to Chat speaker series session on "The Connection between Sleep and Your Child's Health." This free event will take place on Friday, February 5, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at The Fort Bend Family YMCA (4433 Cartwright Rd., Missouri City 77459). Parents and caretakers of children of all ages are invited to attend. Lunch will be provided.

Sartartia Middle School hosts The World of Science, Jan. 22
Science enthusiasts are invited to Sartartia Middle School's fourth annual Family Fun Night, "The World of Science." The event will be held Friday, January 22, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the school (8125 Homeward Way, Sugar Land 77479). Sponsored by Sartartia's Science and Robotics Club in conjunction with Kalpana Vaidya's Gold Award Project, the event will offer fun activities in science exploration for children in grades K-5 and their families.
