January is School Board Recognition Month
Join Fort Bend ISD in honoring its Board of Trustees for all they do to support students, staff and the community

In January, Fort Bend ISD will join school districts throughout the state in honoring its elected Board of Trustees (our Super Heroes for Schools) for their undying support, dedication and commitment to our students, staff, and community. FBISD's seven-member Board of Trustees includes: Grayle James (President),
Dave Rosenthal (Vice President), Kristin Tassin (Secretary) and Members Jason Burdine, KP George, Addie Heyliger and Jim Rice.

FBISD Board of Trustees approves targeted improvement plans for three campuses
The Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees approved targeted improvement plans for three schools during a called meeting on December 7, 2015, reaffirming the District's commitment to address students' individual learning needs and the unique needs of each campus. State accountability systems required that the Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees adopt Texas Accountability Intervention Systems improvement plans for Briargate Elementary, Ridgemont Elementary, and Christa McAuliffe Middle school, due to the schools designation of "Improvement Required" in the 2015 Accountability Ratings.
Supporting each student: CTE, GT, and Campus Improvement
With the Winter Break on our mind, business in FBISD is not slowing down! Our students and educators are making the most of each day, and at the District level, our administrators are engaged in important conversations with the Board of Trustees regarding programs to inspire and equip all students to pursue futures beyond what they can imagine.

Earlier this week, FBISD hosted informational meetings about the future of Career and Technical Education (CTE) and administration's recommendation to build a new Center for Advanced Learning to house expanded CTE programming. On Monday, we will ask the Board of Trustees to consider approving the concept of the centralized facility that would be used to deliver industry training and other advanced academic opportunities.

At this week's Board Meeting, our board unanimously approved targeted improvement plans for three of our campuses in need of extra support, and received an update on the District's Gifted and Talented program. You can read more about the improvement plans here, and the Gifted and Talented update is the subject of my latest blog post.

Finally, as we wind up this semester, please remember "attendance counts," and that each day of learning matters.

I realize this is a busy time of year, and I appreciate you taking time to read my messages and engage with the things taking place in FBISD - your public school district.
