Community gathers for Madden Elementary School's Dedication Ceremony
 
Sunday, October 18 was a special day for Carolyn and Vernon Madden as Fort Bend ISD officially dedicated the District's 46th elementary school named in honor of the former educators. More than 350 guests - including members of the FBISD Board of Trustees, District and school administrators, Texas legislators, business executives and members of the Madden Elementary "Huskies" family - filled the school's auditorium to celebrate the occasion and the lives of Carolyn and Vernon Madden.
Fort Bend ISD observes Red Ribbon Week, Oct. 23-31
Fort Bend ISD schools will join communities across the U.S. in observing Red Ribbon Week, October 23-31, to help raise awareness of the destruction caused by alcohol and drugs in America. Sponsored by the National Family Partnership, Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, drug and violence prevention awareness campaign to support our nation's families and communities in developing healthy, drug free youth.

FBISD to form Special Education Parent Advisory Committee for 2015-16 school year
To offer parents a forum for dialogue and dissemination of information regarding Special Education services for Fort Bend ISD students with disabilities, FBISD's Special Education Department is forming the Special Education Parent Advisory Committee for the 2015-16 school year.

November Board of Trustees Meetings
The November FBISD Board of Trustees meetings will be held on the following dates:
  • November 9 - Called Meeting/Agenda Review Workshop, 6:00 p.m.
  • November 16 - Public Hearing (State Financial Accountability Rating), 5:30 p.m.
  • November 16 - Regular Board Meeting, 6:00 p.m.

FBISD parents attend Care to Chat series for nutritional advice on raising healthy children
Nearly 100 parents took part in the Care to Chat speaker series, "Nutrition Know-How," hosted by Fort Bend ISD and Memorial Hermann Sugar Land, in partnership with the Fort Bend Family YMCA. The event provided parents and caretakers with advice and information on raising healthy children, tweens and teens.
Students invited to attend FBISD's Service Academy Information Night, October 27
Students who are interested in learning more about our nation's five service academies - Army, Coast Guard, Navy, Merchant Marine and Air Force - can plan to attend FBISD's Service Academy Information Meeting on Tuesday, October 27. Students and their families will receive information regarding the admissions process, courses and more.

College prep workshop open to all high school students
Fort Bend ISD high school students are invited to attend the E3 Educational Enrichment Expo, "The Working Series," to receive information to prepare for college. Hosted by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Mu Kappa Omega Chapter and FBISD's College and Career Readiness Department, the event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 31 at Hightower High School (3333 Hurricane Lane, Missouri City 77459), at 9:00 a.m.
Hightower High School theatre presents "Picnic" on Oct. 23, 24 and 26
The community is invited to come out and enjoy a theatrical performance, Picnic, presented by Hightower High School's Poseidon's Playhouse theatre department. The play will be performed on October 23, 24 and 26 in Hightower High School's auditorium (3333 Hurricane Lane, Missouri City 77459) at 7:00 p.m. each night.
