Dear Colleagues,

After the northern hemisphere summer slow-down we are set for an exciting and hectic quarter.

Visit us at SEG and SPE and explore new and important technology in geological prediction, broadband seismic and gridless geological modelling for handling fast projects focused on increasing your business's capital efficiency and success.

Last month saw Ikon Science win another annual award, in additional to our 2014 Queen's Award for Enterprise (read more) we were placed number 97 on the Sunday Times Annual Tech Track 100 list (read more).

Also in the press recently, was our deal with Weatherford International plc who licensed the Ikon Science RokDoc RT™ software system to support its global rig-based real-time Pore Pressure Specialists team (read more).  In this newsletter, VP Real-time Eamonn Doyle provides a handy update on Ikon's real-time business to keep you in the loop on this very fast growing business.

NEW TECHNOLOGY - JiFi

Imminent release, our latest R&D development 'RokDoc-Ji-Fi' provides the most direct way yet to a geological facies and fluid model from seismic and rock physics.

Our Research and Innovation Director Dr Michel Kemper recently presented this technology to SWLGS at the Lafayette Petroleum Club and the SGS in New Orleans. We would like to thank these organisations for hosting us.

Further road shows are planned in Europe, Africa, Middle East and Asia Pacific -
follow us for dates.

NEW TECHNOLOGY - Broadband

By extending the low-frequency content, broadband seismic data lessens the dependence of seismic inversion on a background model. Despite that, the merging of the inverted seismic with a very low frequency background model poses a new problem: the duration of a well-log synthetic seismogram is often seriously inadequate for defining the sharp spectral decay to zero frequency.

To address this issue, Ikon can offer a practical approach based on spectral analysis to determine the low-frequency spectral decay of the seismic well-tie wavelet.

NEW TECHNOLOGY - Gridless Modelling

Ikon's new solution for gridless geological modelling provides real improvement on conventional geocellular modelling.

RokDoc ChronoSeis has gained significant new capabilities this year.

NEW PETREL* PLUG-INS - NOW AVAILABLE

xplot1
Create cross-plots, histogram plots and matrix cross-plots and compare data from multiple wells, geological models and seismic volumes simultaneously.
It will be faster and more effective than ever to interpret your data using knowledge and model defined polygons, best-fit trend lines and Rock Physics Models, all within a tightly integrated cross-plot and well view.

RokDoc Bayesian Classification Plug-in for Petrel*

Users can create facies/lithology probability volumes with this powerful tool for reservoir classification. A simple and intuitive interface allows users to perform accurate geostatistical analysis and make a seamless transition from inversion output to reservoir properties.

For full details about all of the opportunities for Petrel* Plug-ins please visit our website to read more
NEW TECHNOLOGY - MetaStore Update
Ikon MetaStore now has a integrated cross-plotter!

Ikon MetaStore provides access to your global rock property information at any time, any place and without needing to pick the brains of specific employees.  Read more.
IKON's 2 x NEW REAL-TIME CENTRES - UPDATE - Eamonn Doyle provides an update on Ikon's Real-time business

"During the relatively short time during which Ikon's PPwD service has existed, we have planned and monitored several different types of well - HPHT, deepwater, sub-salt, side-track - and different types of service - 4/7 and 24/7 from our Real-time centres (RTC), combined RTC and client office-based, combined RTC and wellsite-based (provided via our alliance with Weatherford).

We are embarking on our first job in which we ourselves do the wellsite pore pressure monitoring. Introduction of this part of the service has been brought forward because of demand from our North Sea customers and Ikon will be providing well site-based 24/7 real-time monitoring with support from our experts at the Real-time centre in Durham, UK.

We have provided PPwD coverage at very short notice on two wells, mobilising our RTC within 48 hours of first request from Operator, with a Well Site Analyst on location on one of the wells within a further 24 hours.

We have introduced a 4/7 service perfect for a company which is a partner on a well and may not be directly involved in all operations.  This provides non operators with important information and background on which they can base their decisions and input. It is a great deal as they get the service at 1/3 of the price of the full 24/7 service. A nice feature of this is that often there are several partners on a well so there are potentially several customers for this service on the same well."

LARGE SCALE REGIONAL PORE PRESSURE STUDY FOR OFFSHORE NEWFOUNDLAND & LABRADOR.
Nalcor Energy commissioned Ikon Science to produce the first large scale regional pore pressure study for offshore Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Regional Pore Pressure Study is a comprehensive evaluation of the subsurface pressure systems in Newfoundland and Labrador's eastern frontier slope and deepwater basins. The study region spans an offshore area from northern Labrador to the Flemish Pass in the south, including the newly discovered Chidley, Henley and Holten basins in the Labrador Sea. The analysis integrated well data and new regional seismic data that was compared to global analogues. The report is now released and available for free download on the Nalcor Energy website - read more.
