We have a great resource for you,
that can be used
individually, with your family, or with a group.
Book of Faith Advent Reflections is a series of daily devotional resources for Advent.
Each of the 4 titles offers opportunities to open scripture, look at it through different lenses, and join in conversations about the Bible with friends or family, with a small group, and ultimately, with God during the season of Advent.
Here are the 4 titles.
Book of Faith Advent Reflections: While We Wait Book of Faith Advent Reflections: I Wonder as I Wander Book of Faith Advent Reflections: Making All Things New Book of Faith Advent Reflections: You Shall Have a Song
Each title includes a weekly Bible study for group use, as well as an Advent Activities section for families to use together each week. If you would like to explore one of these booklets for your Advent time, please send me an email and I will send it right out!

Your Synod Resource Center now has copies of 2 books written by Lutheran Pastor Nadia Bolz-Weber. These books will have you laughing and crying, as you identify with the stories that are shared. Some will be stories that you also have, others will be stories about others that you care about. Be ready to have your heart touched. The 2 books we now have available are:

Pastrix: The Cranky Beautiful Faith of a Sinner and Saint.
Using life-stories from living in a hopeful-but-haggard commune of slackers to surviving the wobbly chairs and war stories of a group for recovering alcoholics, from her unusual but undeniable spiritual calling to pastoring a notorious con artist, Nadia Bolz-Weber uses stunning narrative and poignant honesty to portray a woman who is both deeply faithful and deeply flawed, giving hope to the rest of us along the way.
We also have her newest book, Accidental Saints: Finding God in All the Wrong People. She asks us, "What if that person you have been trying to avoid is your best shot at grace all day? And, what if that's the point?
In a time when many have rightly become disillusioned with Christianity, Accidental Saints demonstrates what happens when ordinary people share bread and wine, struggle with scripture together, and tell each other the truth about their real lives. This unforgettable account of their faltering steps toward wholeness will ring true for believer and skeptic alike.
Send me an email if you'd like to read one of these incredible books! Click here to Email Janet your request.

We continue to keep a good supply of Luther's Small Catechism pamphlets on hand.
We purchase these for you and your congregations.
With Reformation 500 approaching, this is a great time to have a class on Luther's Small Catechism.
We'll supply you with Luther's words!
To date we have sent out over 1,300 Small Catechism pamphlets.
Join the excitement, as our Presiding, Elizabeth Eaton, suggested
by "dusting off the catechism and taking another look at the basics of our faith."

The Synod Resource Center would like to say
THANK YOU to the Sierra Pacific Synod Women of the ELCA for awarding us a Grant at the Synod WELCA Convention in Oakhurst, October 9-11. THANK YOU very much!
The Convention was wonderful, with great speakers on amazing topics!
- We heard about what the ELCA is doing in Rwanda and were told that the school built there will have its first class of graduating seniors this sring! Praise the Lord, for He is doing marvelous things!!!!! God's work. Our hands.
- We heard about Ethics and how they impact all that we do. Our values guide our behavior. If you want to know what you value, check out what you are doing, it is right there. We were also reminded that the best time to think about end of life decisions is NOW!
- We heard about Human Trafficking, which by the way, is not about an underworld of immigrants, it is active in our working world, among teenagers in our local schools! You will be hearing more on this topic, it doesn't seem to be going away any time soon. Be alert!
Our Keynote Speaker, Kathryn Lohre reminded us that we are here "for such a time as this" and there are things God is calling each of us to boldly step forward and do. This is a challenge for all of us, men and women, to listen to call of the Spirit, and move forward in faith!
Our Synod WELCA organization is alive and strong, if you are a woman, be involved!
