"Echo the Story youth," an imaginative way to engage in the Bible using storytelling, creative reflection, and dialogue, continues with the latest release of the new "Echo the Story 36."
Micheal Novelli, author of "Echo the Story," says that
he tried everything during his first ten years in youth ministry to help students connect with the Bible.....inductive, topical, Bible survey, verse-by-verse, devotional, chapter analysis.... Yet most of his students showed little interest in the Bible and struggled to stay focused.
Then he discovered Chronological Bible Storying. The powerful experience of Bible storytelling and group dialogue was revolutionary ..... deeply experiential and theological at the same time. Students were captivated by the Bible narratives, eager to share their observations and wonderings. They were looking for God -- in the Bible and in each other!
We now have "Echo the Story 36" in two sections: Sessions 1-6 and 7-12. Take a look at it as you plan future youth sessions. You can check it out and look it over:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We also have Michael Novelli's book " Shaped by the Story," in which he shares methods for adapting Bible storying for various contexts, helps for creating your own Bible storying, and proven learning theories guiding this approach. This book could help you engage your group with the Bible in a whole new way.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The Gospels" - a dvd-based exploration of the four Gospels - is an example of using storytelling to teach. This dvd includes four 1/2 hour presentations:
one for each of the Gospels.
The host/narrator is Christopher Gornold-Smith, a historian and Bible teacher, who takes the listener into the heart of each of the Gospels. Combining remarkable shots of the Holy Land with dramatized scenes and analysis of each gospel account, one is invited into the world of Jesus. You will be entertained, inspired and informed. This could be well-used in a small-group setting. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Luther's Small Catechism - pocket size
Our offer still stands! What a wonderful surprise it was to read Presiding Bishop Elizabeth A. Eaton's
article in the last issue of The Lutheran where she urges us to "dust off our Small Catechisms and take another look at the basics of our faith. "Millions of us through the centuries and world have studied and memorized it.
'What does this mean?' and 'This is most certainly true' are two of the most recognizable phrases in Lutheranism. It would be wonderful if we as the ELCA prepared for the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in 2017 by studying the Small Catechism together. We have a common language with which to talk about faith, engage Scripture, and make sense of our world. Catechism is not just for the young. This is most certainly true."We have sent out dozens and dozens of the Small Catechism, and are happy to keep sending them out, either to individuals or to groups in your congregation. No cost to you. Just send us an email: rspselca@pacbell.net
