Sierra Pacific Synod Resource Center

November 2013

What's New at the Resource Center?

As of November, 2013, Cindi Eckert resigned as Director of the RC after serving in the ministry for six years, due her her husband's job relocation. She will be missed!

It is a pleasure for  me to follow Cindi in this position, and participate in the next chapter of this exciting place.  I look forward to being of assistance to the pastors and people of the Sierra Pacific Synod in their search for timely and helpful resources.

Go to our website -- resourcecenterspselca.org -- and search by subject, author, or title.  Or send an email to rspselca@pacbell.net and I will search for you.

THINKING ABOUT ADVENT?
Your Resource Center has many Advent materials -- call now!   559 345-2725

Book of Faith Advent Reflections are great for individual or family devotions, as well as for small groups.  We have "Making All Things New," "While We Wait," and "I Wonder as I Wander" from that series.

We have Advent dramas, idea books like "Celebrating the Advent/Christmas Season."  We have dvds like "Nativity: the art and Spirit of the Creche" and "Scrooge."  We have Bible skits, Advent Dramas, and many children's books and dvds such as "The Twenty-four Days Before Christmas," Richard Paul Evans' "The Christmas Candle," "What God Wants for Christmas," and (in Spanish) "Modestita's Gift."

Susan Briehl's "Come, Lord Jesus" is one of several family devotional books.   We have "Christmas is Not Your Birthday" by Mike Slaughter.  We have "Unplug the Christmas Machine," (a guide to putting love and joy back into the season).  We also have a 2' x 3' floor puzzle with music cd called "The Nativity" - great way to share the story of Jesus with ages 4+.

This Month's New Resources!
Everyone seems to be talking about the video "A Place at the Table."  We have several copies!

From the people that brought you FOOD, INC., "...this film specifically addresses our country's hunger crisis. But it also speaks to larger hungers, hungers for independence, a dignified life, a better chance for one's children --  in short, the American dream." -Mary F. Pols, Time Magazine   The film stars Jeff Bridges.  50 million Americans - 1 in 4 children - don't know where their next meal is coming from.  A Place at the Table tells the powerful stories of three such Americans, who maintain their dignity even as they struggle just to eat, in a riveting journey that will change forever how you think about the hungry.

Working with children?  Have grandchildren?
Search our array of video stories, as well as storybooks (many with a Christmas theme) and children's Bibles.  Ever seen a 3-D Bible?  New:  "Bedbug Bible Gang Christmas Story." We also still have the beloved "Grandma's Bread" video stories (vhs), Max Lucado's "The Crippled Lamb," and lots of VeggieTales such as "the Little Drummer Boy," "Lessons from the Sock Drawer," and "Silly Little Thing Called Love."
