Nothing can replace the experience of attending church on Sundays and being part of the Divine Liturgy celebration. However, you can listen to the sermon that was delivered at St. Sarkis Church last Sunday.

Next Sunday: A Book Presentation Organized By Youth Club
One Church, One Nation, the latest volume of Hrair Hawk Khatcherian and is a compilation of Armenian churches from around the globe, a mission that was as exhausting as it was rewarding. It's been a work in progress ever since the outset in 1993.

What you may know about the 53-year-old artist is that doctors gave him 10 days to live as he lay on a hospital bed, suffering from terminable lung cancer.

What may not be so obvious was the fact his mother-in-law Araxie was diagnosed with breast cancer at the same time. This book is dedicated to her.

"She died holding my hand and passed along the rest of her life to me," Khatcherian revealed. "I had 10 days to live, not 10 days to die. That was 20 years ago and I'm still around."

So are his cameras and books, along with an insatiable desire to put his unbridled energy to work preserving Armenian culture and history. He made an extraordinary vow in 1993 on what appeared to be his deathbed.

He promised God that if He allowed to him to live, he would photograph every Armenian church in every country of the world. Twenty years later, that vow has been maintained, living only for and by Armenia, Artsakh (Karabagh), and all the fundamental references, values, and benchmarks of the Armenian world.

St. Sarkis calendar 2015

Dear parishioners and friends,

2015 marks the 100th Commemoration of one of the most tragic events in the history of the Armenian people - the Armenian Genocide. This tragedy of enormous destruction and pain has echoed through time and every single Armenian alive today is connected to these events through their ancestors who perished during 1915 and 1923.

This year's calendar is dedicated in memory of the 1,500,000 men, women and children who perished and to the courageous survivors and orphaned children whose resilience and determination to transmit their legacy to the next generation was indeed their destiny.

In commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, Hrayr Hawk Khatcherian, a renown photographer and artist, who traveled the world photographing Armenian symbols of faith, has provided powerful and inspiring images of the indestructible Armenian soul for our calendar.

As longstanding benefactors and staunch supporters of St. Sarkis Church, we appeal to you once again for your sponsorship and generous donation in this major fundraiser which will help our church undertake and complete major renovation projects which are currently in progress. There will also be a business section in the back of the calendar for those who may wish to advertize their business

For those of us who lost family members during the genocide, this is a unique opportunity to remember and honor their sacrifice by dedicating our donation in their memory.

Simply Christmas

Two Years ago His Eminence Archbishop Oshagan consecrated the new doors of St. Sarkis Church. A generous and faithful parishioner graciously donated the beautiful doors anonymously to help beautify our church.  Our "Anonymous Donor", chose to give in a manner that is in sync with the teachings of the good Lord: "But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing" ( Mathew 6:3).  We are grateful to our Anonymous Donor and thank you for this beautiful heartfelt gift.

The new doors were consecrated by His Eminence Archbishop Oshagan, Prelate on the 50th Anniversary Celebration of our Church 2 years ago.

Once again, we thank our Anonymous Donor for this gift of love.

THE EPISTLE OF ST. PAUL TO THE PHILIPPIANS (1.1-11)

Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus,

To all the saints in Christ Jesus at Philippi, together with the overseers and deacons:

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart; for whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God's grace with me. God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.

And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ-to the glory and praise of God.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST ACCORDING TO LUKE (9:44-50)

While everyone was marveling at all that Jesus did, he said to his disciples, "Listen carefully to what I am about to tell you: The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men." But they did not understand what this meant. It was hidden from them, so that they did not grasp it, and they were afraid to ask him about it.

An argument started among the disciples as to which of them would be the greatest. Jesus, knowing their thoughts, took a little child and had him stand beside him. Then he said to them, "Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For he who is least among you all-he is the greatest."

"Master," said John, "we saw a man driving out demons in your name and we tried to stop him, because he is not one of us."

PAREGENTAN OF THE FAST OF ADVENT
This Sunday, November 16, is the Eve (Paregentan) of the Fast of Advent (Hisnag). This is a week-long fast (Monday to Friday) leading up to the first Sunday of Advent, which is nextSunday, November 23.

Advent is the period that guides us up to the birth and baptism of Christ. It begins fifty days before January 6. Advent is intended to be a solemn and quiet time for prayer, reflection, and meditation in preparation for the mystery of the incarnation.

Traditionally the entire fifty-day period of Advent was a period of fasting. Now there are three week-long fasts during Advent (along with the regular fasting days of Wednesday and Friday). The three week-long fasts are known as: The Fast of Advent (Hisnagats Bahk); The Fast of St. James (Sourp Hagopah Bahk); and the Fast of the Nativity (Dznuntyan Bahk).

THE HOLY APOSTLES ANDREW AND PHILIP
This Saturday, November 15, we remember the Holy Apostles Andrew and Philip. Andrew was a Galilean fisherman and the first-called of the followers of Christ, along with his brother Simon, who was later called Peter. Philip was from Bethsaida, and after he had been called to be an apostle he brought in Nathanael (later called Bartholomew).

The word apostle is associated with the special inner circle of Jesus' disciples, chosen by Jesus to accompany him during His ministry, to learn from Him and follow His instructions to continue His work.
