Our Community offered prayers and as Fr. Varoujan Voskanian at St. Sarkis By Edward Barsamian

On Wednesday evening, May 28, 2014, members of the Armenian Romanian Community in New York had the pleasure to host a meeting with Mr. Varujan Vosganian at Saint Sarkis Armenian Apostolic Church in Queens.

Mr. Vosganian has served as Minister of Economy and other high positions in the Romanian Parliament, is also an author and prominent member of the Armenian community in Romania.

Members of our Church organized a graceful reception for Mr. Vosganian, who was in New York to present his latest book - Book of Whispers - to the American Book Expo taking place at Javits Center, as the book was nominated for a Nobel prize in literature.

This book covers, among other things, the history of the 1915 genocide against the Armenians, the history of the interminable convoys of those banished into the Circles of Death, into the Deir ez Zor Desert, the secret history of Armenian freemasonry in Romania, of General Dro's army, the history of the Armenians who followed the path of exile in the Stalinist period - all these and many other biographically filtered histories are to be found illustrated in the pages of this unsettling book.

While in New York, Mr. Vosganian expressed his desire to meet with the members of the Armenian Romanian Community, and the Prelate, Archbishop Choloyan, Prelacy Vicar General Bishop Anoushavan Tanielain , our pastor Der Nareg  joined Dr. Ioana Gabriela COSTACHE         , Consul General of Romania at New York and a crowd of more than 60 people to hear Mr. Voskanian talk about the Armenian community in Romania, and share his views on present challenges to Armenians throughout the world.

A question and answer period followed and the evening ended on a cordial note with Mr. Vosganian autographing several of his books that he was able to bring with him. The committee organizing this event expresses special thanks to the Mrs. Adrine Nercessian, Alina Kotchoumian, Ami Gostanian, Louiza Kubikian and Sosy Kazanjian who almost single-handedly created a wonderful set of refreshments for the guests.

Honoring the Graduates of the Armenian Community By Seta Megherian
Dear Parents and Graduates,

It is with great pleasure that I write to you and thank you for taking part in this very special event.  Graduation Sunday will take place on Sunday, June 8th.  Graduates and their families will have reserved seating in Church and will receive Holy Communion.  Together, we will all pray for their future success in all their endeavors.

Following the Badarak, all graduates, parents, family, friends and parishioners will be invited to join in a special Luncheon in their honor.  There will be a very memorable presentation, all graduates will be presented with a special gift and the cake cutting ceremony will take place.  Please make reservations as soon as possible, and no later than June 1, so that we can plan accordingly and set up for an unforgettable afternoon.  You can email or call me for your reservation.

All graduates are free of charge.  $25 per person, $15 for children 5-10 years old.

We are working on a photo montage to show during the presentation.  I kindly ask that you choose 5 pictures of each graduate; the pictures should represent the graduate through the years from infant up until today.  It is greatly appreciated if the pictures can be scanned and emailed to me no later than June 1, so that we can put together the montage.

All graduates should be dressed in Church attire.

FIRST EPISTLE OF ST. JOHN THE APOSTLE (5.1-14)

I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us-whatever we ask-we know that we have what we asked of him.

If anyone sees his brother commit a sin that does not lead to death, he should pray and God will give him life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that he should pray about that. All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death.

We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the one who was born of God keeps him safe, and the evil one cannot harm him. We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one. We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true-even in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST ACCORDING TO JOHN (12.12-23)

The next day the great crowd that had come for the Feast heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, "Hosanna!", "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!", "Blessed is the King of Israel!"

Jesus found a young donkey and sat upon it, as it is written, "Do not be afraid, O Daughter of Zion; see, your king is coming, seated on a donkey's colt."
At first his disciples did not understand all this. Only after Jesus was glorified did they realize that these things had been written about him and that they had done these things to him.
Now the crowd that was with him when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to spread the word. Many people, because they had heard that he had given this miraculous sign, went out to meet him. So the Pharisees said to one another, "See, this is getting us nowhere. Look how the whole world has gone after him!"
Now there were some Greeks among those who went up to worship at the Feast. They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, with a request. "Sir," they said, "we would like to see Jesus." Philip went to tell Andrew; Andrew and Philip in turn told Jesus.
Jesus replied, "The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.
