On Sunday afternoon, after Badarak, Chadrjian Hall was transformed into an art gallery. Six talented artists exhibited their works.
Among the artists was Elizabeth Hugasian, born in Bulgaria who previously worked in textiles as a designer. Ms. Hugasian displayed original paintings of lovely florals using oil, acrylic, and watercolor.
Asbed Melkonian, born in Aleppo, works with acrylic on canvas. Among his works is one titled Unity in Strength concerning the division of our torn Church, and another entitled Turkish Denial regarding the Armenian Genocide.
Eliz Alahverdian, born in United State, a first generation Armenian is alumni and curator of Adelphi University. Her art is quite innovative. She uses "green" (i.e. chemically free) materials to create. Her work is best described as abstract and "avant garde ".
Serge Alahverdian is a versatile artist working with acrylics which are ablaze with color. His watercolors are tranquil and soft, while his pastels have an intense beauty. He currently is Floral Designer for Garden World.
Karnig Alajajian was born in Alexandria, Egypt. Since childhood he has had the desire to paint. He is a member of the Art Guild of Port Washington. All his art works are in Acrylic Medium. He exhibits several Aivazovsky reproductions. Karnig still pursues his love of art and painting.

| St Sarkis Church Calendar - 2014 |
|

As you know, St. Sarkis Church sends its parishioners a calendar at the beginning of each year. The 2014 calendar is being prepared to be printed in full color and distributed to all parishioners free of charge.
Since there are only twelve pages that can be sponsored (one page for each month), there is very limited space offered for this purpose. In keeping with current economic conditions, each of the twelve months will be sponsored for the modest amount of $750.00. This means that pages can be sponsored in several ways allowing the entire parish to take part in this fundraising project.
Please check your level of sponsorship and contact the church office as soon as possible.

THE EPISTLE OF ST. PAUL TO THE
EPHESIANS (1.1-14)
Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To the saints in Ephesus, the faithful in Christ Jesus: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will- to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding. And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment-to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ.
In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession-to the praise of his glory.
THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST
ACCORDING TO LUKE (8:17-21)
For nothing is hidden that will not be disclosed, nor is anything secret secret that will not become known and come to light. Then pay attention to how you listen, for to those who have, more will be given, and from those who do not have, even what they seem to have will be taken away."
Then his mother and his brothers came to him, but they could not reach him because of the crowd. And he was told, "Your mother and your brothers are standing outside, wanting to see you." But he said to them, "My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it."

Today, October 31, the Armenian Church commemorates and remembers St. John Chrysostom (Hovhan Voskeperan), a notable Christian bishop and preacher in Syria and Constantinople. He is famous for his eloquence-Chrysostom means "golden mouth." The Orthodox Church honors him as a saint and one of the "three holy hierarchs" (along with Basil the Great and Gregory the Theologian). He is also recognized and honored by the Catholic Church and the Church of England.
John converted to Christianity in 368 when he was barely 21 years old. He renounced a large inheritance and promising legal career and went to live in a mountain cave where he studied the Bible. He was later ordained a priest and soon his sermons were attracting huge audiences. He challenged wealthy Christians, whose generosity was confined to donating precious objects for display in churches. "The gift of a chalice may be extravagant in its generosity," he said, "but a gift to the poor is an expression of love."
His outspoken criticism was not appreciated by the hierarchy and he was sent into exile at various times. He had a profound influence on the doctrines and theology of the Armenian Church because he spent the final years of his exile in Armenia. Some of his important works have survived only in Armenian manuscripts.
Muse of the deep and ineffable Divine Mysteries. Wise Prefect and Great Doctor of the world, Like the rock of the Church, you were faithful to the key to heaven. From the beloved disciple, you received the gospel. From the Holy Virgin Birthgiver you received your symbol of authority. O Patriarch John, by the grace of the Holy Spirit you received wisdom. (An Armenian Church ode dedicated to St. John Chrysostom)
